摘要:
AbstractIn multifunctional reactors chemical and physical unit operations are carried out simultaneously. Traditionally chemical reaction engineering considers mass and heat transfer processes in combination with chemical reactions. However, the term multifunctional reactor points to an extended and more detailed view of process integration. By application of these reactors it is possible to save investment and/or operating costs, to meet environmentally relevant limits or to improve process safety. Mechanical and thermal unit operations are especially good candidates for integration with a chemical reaction step. In this contribution selected multifunctional reactors are presented, which were either adopted from the literature or are the subject of the authors' own research activities.

摘要:
AbstractOnly in exceptional cases do literature data and computer programs suffice as a basis for the dimensioning of new engineering processes in the chemical industry. As a rule, the new process is constructed with all process steps on a laboratory scale and operated with original products. In doing this, use of made of MINIPLANT engineering, with each process step being performed on the smallest scale which will still permit reproducible operation. This eliminates the need for sophisticated pilot plant. This article presents MINIPLANT equipment for fluid processes such as distillation, rectification, evaporation, and liquid‐liquid extraction, for which miniaturisation is farthest advanced. In the development of smaller equipment for solids processing such as drying, crystallisation, and size reduction, further efforts will be required. AbstractFor many products the drying step exerts a great influence on price and application properties. Therefore great effort should be invested in developing and optimizing drying processes. This paper presents a structured procedure for the development of drying processes. In the case of optimal experimental equipment an “ideal” method of proceeding is indicated. Furthermore it is shwon how to develop and optimize drying processes very successfully with little experimental equipment or even if there is no experimental equipment available. AbstractStarting from the properties of the materials constituting waste, approaches suitable for size reduction of tough materials are considered.
