AbstractMeasures to improve heat transfer for condensation.In the search for measures to improve the heat transfer for condensation, one has to differentiate between condensation of pure vapours and that of mixtures of vapours. For pure vapours a considerable proportion of the heat transfer resistance is associated with the condensed film. The heat transfer can therefore be improved either by reducing the film thickness or by increasing the heat transport across the film. For mixtures of vapours the heat transfer coefficient at the phase interface is often decisive, and one has to investigate the vapour behaviour rather than the condensed film. The present article surveys the options available to improve the heat transfer for film condensation of pure vapours on vertical surfaces, and as well in vertical or horizontal passed pipes as on pipes in a transverse stream.

AbstractPurification of flue gases by dry sorbents – possibilities and limits.The desired level of purification of the gases, even with smaller amounts of exhaust gases, requires technically straightforward methods. Purification of flue gases using socalled „dry”︁ methods offers the advantage that no problems associated with waste water arise. The gaseous impurities are deposited onto dry sorbents, which can subsequently be disposed of in the dry state. AbstractAlternative transport systems for long‐distance transport in the chemical industry.The survival of a company in the chemical industry is nowadays determined by the location of raw materials and the transportation routes and transfer centres to the chemical production sites, and particularly also on the availability of economical and environmentally unobjectionable transport systems and procedures. Increasing difficulties and legislation in the chemical industry, especially due to environmental and disposal problems, as well as the increasing density of mass flow thanks to increasing productivity, demand new technologies and alternative transport systems which can be integrated into a network of modern and environmentally appropriate conveying and storage systems. In a framework of increasing automation of all transport, pipeline transport will become increasingly attractive to the chemical industry with increasing environmental consciousness. AbstractDesign and dimensions of a mechanical defoamer.This paper presents a newly developed powerful mechanical defoamer which exploits centrifugal force and, thanks to circular channels, also Coriolis force for destruction of foam. It is incorporated into containers such that the expelled foam concentrate is deflected by the lid without producing fresh foam. Model experiments with three geometrically similar but different sized laboratory models led to dimensionaltheoretically formulated process‐relations of the defoamer for various material systems (five chemical foamers, two biological substrates). Such process‐relations represent a reliable basis for design and dimensions of the defoamer presented, on the one hand, and permit determination of an „intermediate characteristic”︁, having the dimensions of acceleration, which represents the mechanical degradability of
