The results of an investigation of epidermal ridges on hands of 300 normal Estonian girls and 200 boys between 12 and 19 years of age have been given. The analysis revealed statistically significant (p < 0.01) bimanual and sex differences in some dermato-glyphical features.

Frequencies of HL-A antigens, blood groups (ABO, Rh, MNSs, Kell, Lewis and Duffy), serm groups (Hp, Gc and C3) and red cell enzyme types (PGM1· 6-PGD and AK) were studied in a series of 122 psoriatic patients from northern Sweden. The increased frequency of the HL-A antigens W17 and HL-A13 found in previous investigations was confirmed. An association was found with the MNSs blood groups, Ss heterozygotes being strongly underrepresented among psoriatic patients. The frequencies of the blood type Le (a–b–) in the Lewis system and the A-factor in the ABO-system were found to be increased in proriasis. A series of blood samples for Fuyuge speakers in Papua New Guinea have been tested for genetic variation in haemoglobin and in 8 blood groups, 5 serum protein and 15 enzyme systems, the latter being controlled by genes at 20 loci. Polymorphic variation was present for the ABO, MNS, Rh, P, and Lewis blood group systems, for the Hp and Tf serum protein systems and for the acid phosphatase, 6-PGD, ADA, PGM1· and PGM2 loci controlling red cell enzymes. In addition, a small number of variants was detected in the Pep D system, and a single G6PD deficient male was found. No Hb variants were present, and there was no variation for the Fy, Ge and K blood groups, for the caeruloplasmin, protease inhibitor and albumin serum proteins or for the AK, ‘oxidase’, Pep A, B and C, PHI, diaphorase, ICD, GOT, LDH, MDH and PGK red cell enzyme systems. Some immunogenetic terms, their relations, conceptual implications and possible counterparts in the observable world are given. The language introduced attempts to give an unambiguous conceptual foundation for different systems of description, theories or models regarding gene-antigen-antibody-reagent relations in serology and immunogenetics. The experimental verification of some predicted entities is briefly discussed, although mainly meta-serological aspects are analyzed.

The use of linked markers in the determination of twin zygosity is discussed. It is shown that if linkage is ignored, the probability of monozygosity will be overestimated. If only two loci are treated, the error can in some cases be considerable, but if both linked and independent markers are used, the effect of the linkage is negligible.

The relationship between the serum concentration of the pregnancy zone protein (PZ) and mother-child incompatibility was studied in four genetic systems (ABO, Gc, AcP and PGM1). No relationship was found between PZ level and incompatibility in the Gc and PGM1 systems. In the ABO and AcP systems incompatibility was found to be significantly less frequent when the mother had a low level of PZ. The results fit the hypothesis that genetic incompatibility may stimulate the production of PZ.

Seven of 24 unrelated Israeli Jewish families affected with cystinuria were of Libyan origin. Five of these seven families were intensively investigated and heterozygotes were identified in four of them. This indicates that, contrary to other populations, in this community cystinuria is mainly of type II or III. Among randomly screened healthy school children of Libyan origin 3–4% were found to be heterozygotes for cystinuria. It is estimated that in this community the frequency of genetically determined cystine urolithiasis is about 1:2,50
