摘要:
Surveying the literature, gene frequency data on 10∼18 protein loci were collected from six caste populations of north India as well as from two linguistically different populations (Marathis and Gujaratis) and two migrant populations (Parsis and Iranis) in west India. The average heterozygosity per locus of protein loci in all these populations is found to vary from 8 to 11%. The gene differences between individuals from different populations are only slightly higher than those between individuals from the same population. Only 1 % of the total gene diversity (heterozygosity) is attributable between population

摘要:
The author has reviewed available data for Jewish populations on gene frequencies of the polymorphic serum proteins haptoglobin (Hp), groupspecific component (Gc), and pseudocholmesterase (PCE), and the polymorphic erythrocyte enzymes phosphoglucomutase (PGM), adenosine deaminase (ADA), adenylate kinase (AK), acid phosphatase (AP), and glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (GPT). Jews were heterogeneous with respect to frequencies of Gc, PGM, ADA, and GPT, and European Jews tended to resemble European non-Jews. In contrast, frequencies of AP and Hp in European Jews resembled those of Mediterranean non-Jewish populations. Jews have undergone extensive interbreeding with indigenous non-Jewish populations, but still retain some genetic evidence of their Mediterranean origin.

摘要:
Preferences for handedness, arm folding and hand clasping were observed in 76 families. No significant relationship was found to exist between parents and children in regard to these traits. There was no significant relationship between handedness and arm folding or arm folding and hand clasping. There was marginal association between handedness and hand clasping.

摘要:
200 Alanders, 295 Maris and 146 Greenland Eskimos were investigated regarding the phenotypes and gene frequencies of the pseudocholinesterase loci E1· and E2. No dibucaine-resistant variant phenotype has been found among the Maris and Greenland Eskimos while a frequency of 0.0025 has been observed for the Ea1gene among the Alanders. The segregation studies regarding the E2 locus among the Finnish Lapp families point to no definite Mendelian inheritance pattern of the C5 component. The available population data on the polymorphism of pseudocholinesterase has been compiled to serve as an up-to-date reference

摘要:
The sampling variances in twin and sibling studies of man for estimation of intraclass correlation coefficients and their relation to heritabilities are evaluated. For twins and full-sibs the higher the estimated heritability of a trait the smaller the sampling variance. With increase in the number of twin sets or of full-sibships studied, the sampling variances decrease by their proportions. Twin and full-sib studies with lower heritabilities (h2 < 0.25) need at least 50 sibships to obtain a significant estimate. Using half-sibs to estimate heritabilities, increase of the offspring number from the same parent would be more efficient for reducing the sampling variance of the heritability compared with increases of half-sibship families. However, because of the limited number of offspring per family in modern man, the efficiency of the half-sib design could be increased by the large number of monozygotic twin families. It appears that with only 2 or 3 children per full-sibship family, approximately 100 half-sibships are needed for significant estimate of heritability.

摘要:
A boy is reported with congenital absence of the sterno-costal head of the left pectoralis major muscle, with ipsilateral hypoplasia of the arm, forearm and hand and short fingers. In the absence of syndactyly, the diagnosis of the Poland anomaly is supported by characteristic abnormalities of the palmar dermatoglyphs.

摘要:
PTC taste sensitivity was studied in two groups ofMuslims, namely the Sayyad and Pathan of Uttar Pradesh. No difference in the frequency of the non-taster allele was observed. The Sayyad and Pathan revealed similarity with the upper caste Hindus of Uttar Pradesh and were found to be within the range of variation of Muslims of Middle East and many other Asiatic population.

摘要:
The distribution of Gc and Tf phenotypes of leprosy patients from the districts of Mali and Ethiopia was investigated in respect to different forms of leprosy. In Mali we observed a significant difference in the Gc system between leprosy patients and healthy persons. In Ethiopia no association was observed.
