摘要:
AbstractBenzyloxycarbonylamino‐acids and ‐peptides very easily form addition compounds with their alkali metal salts; this sometimes causes difficulties during the preparation of benzyloxycarbonylamino‐acids or ‐peptides. The complexes may separate in crystalline form when aqueous solutions of the salts are acidified; they can also be prepared by mixing solutions of the free benzyloxycarbonyl derivatives with solutions of appropriate amounts of the salts. Some complexes are oily and fairly soluble in ethyl acetate. From one set of components (Cbo‐amino‐acid and its salt) sometimes more than one type of complex can be obtained each having a characteristic melting point. The solvent used for the crystallisation largely defines the complex. Within one type the salt content can vary. It seems thatwithin certain limitsan arbitrary number of metal ions can replace protons of

摘要:
AbstractThe polymerisate of 4‐chloropyridine consists of a mixture of water‐soluble substances showing the properties of pyridyl‐4‐chloropyridinium chlorides. These compounds are rapidly decomposed by water, the chlorine in the pyridine ring being split off hydrolytically. From measurements on the U.V. spectra, it appears that 4‐hydroxypyridine and N(4′‐pyridyl)‐4‐pyridone are produced in the hydrolysis of the polymerisate. These compounds were isolated in the form of their picrates. In addition, two other picrates have been isolated, which are in all probability derived from compounds containing more than t

摘要:
AbstractIn order to investigate the adduct‐forming properties of sterols with very small quantities of these compounds a method has been developed which uses acetylated chromatography paper as the medium in which the adduct can be formed. For the adduct formation of· cholesterol the results appear to be in agreement with those obtained on a larger scale by refluxing a solution of the sterol in the presence of the other component. The method is also suitable for the investigation of the adduct formation of sterols other than cholesterol. The relative humidity of the atmosphere in which the reaction takes place has an important influence on the adduct formation. Two colour reagents for detecting steroids on acetylated paper are described: a solution of benzenesulphonic acid in ether‐methanol, and a solution of antimony trichloride in tetrahydrofu

摘要:
AbstractA comprehensive survey is given of the possibilities created for the analysis of phenol formaldehyde (PF) condensates by the development of paper chromatography, in particular through the application of benzeneacetic acid‐water as an eluent. A method for the quantitative determination of low molecular condensation products employing this eluent is given in detai
