摘要:
AbstractAs is the case with H3PO4and HClO4, H2SeO3and HClO4react with each other to form a compound of the composition H2SeO3. HClO4. Its behaviour on electrolysis of its solution in CH3NO2leads to the formulation [Se(OH)3]+.ClO4−.The crystal system of both the compounds mentioned was determined. We could not elucidate their crystal structure and no substances isomorphous with them were found. Their heat of solution in water was determined and the conductivity of their solutions in CH3NO2was compared with that of some other perchlorate

摘要:
AbstractIt is shown that derride can be converted into Buckley's compound by treatment with alkali.A substance termed derridic acid analogous to derrisic acid was obtained from derride by the action of alcoholic potash.Oxidation of derridic acid with hydrogen peroxide afforded derric acid while oxidation with potassium permanganate gave a small yield of a substance, which might be rissic acid.On oxidation of derride with chromic acid two compounds were formed, one derridenone, the analogue of rotenonone of which the hydrazone was prepared, and the other an acid with the probable formula C9H6O4.Hydrogenation of derride in acetic acid with platinum oxide as a catalyst lead to the isolation of a very highly hydrogenated product.It was shown that in the preparation of dehydroderride, treatment with zinc to eliminate iodine can be omitted.

摘要:
AbstractAccording to a method developed by de Boer powder samples baked out in vacuo are exposed to iodine vapour which is adsorbed at the powder surface. The amount adsorbed is determined by a simple chemical titration. The precautions necessary and the reproducibility of the observations are discussed in detail. Surface reactions and the effect of milling in a ball mill can clearly be traced by corresponding changes in the adsorption.

AbstractWhen applying the cage theory of liquids to ions in solution it appears that the cage is much smaller for ions than for the solvent molecules themselves. This suggests that the walls of the cage are to be identified with the so‐called hydration layer. Further, the dimensions of the cage are such that classical and quantum mechanics apply equally well (or equally badly for that matter). An expression for the frequency of oscillation in the cage is proposed. On the basis of this expression it is possible to relate the ion mobility to its temperature coefficient. The agreement with experimental data is very satisfactory.The exceptionally high mobility of the hydrogen ions is easily explained by its dimensions compared with the dimensions of the smallest cage possible. Finally, it is shown that the effect of tunnelling through the walls of the cage is inappreciabl

AbstractIt is shown that the boiling points of all halogenated methane derivatives can be calculated as the sum of the contributions of three effects (London‐, Keesom‐ and Debije effect), even in the cases of the rather large deviations reported previously.The three effects are studied here to a higher approximation than was done formerly. It turns out that in a few cases the values calculated with the old formula for the London effect need a slight correction (refraction effect), but generally the formula holds without that.The formula for the Keesom effect seems to be correct in all cases.It can be understood that the formula for the Debije contribution to the boiling point according to van Arkel and Snoek does not hold so well. As a consequence of this fact we can easily understand the rather highTD+TK′ values for the fluorinated ethane and ethene derivatives previously reported (fluorine effect).Applying the combination of the refraction effect and the fluorine effect it is possible to predict the trends of the boiling points of isomers of the same type. All cases known in the literature are checked and no deviations are
