AbstractThe kinetics of the exchange reaction of bromine atoms between ethyl bromide‐ [82Br] and aluminium bromide in carbon disulphide has been studied. The reaction rate is proportional to the ethyl bromide concentration and to the square of the aluminium bromide concentration. The energy of activation amounts to 11.7 kcal/mole (±7%).It is probable that no carbonium ions are involved in the reaction.The rate of the exchange reaction is very low in such solvents as nitrobenzene, nitromethane, ether and acetonitrile. 摘要:
AbstractThe formation of amide by interaction of urea and carboxylic acids according to the method of Cherbuliez and LandoltE.Cherbuliez and F. Landolt, Helv. Chim. Acta 29, 1438 (1946).) has been examined for its application and limitations. On the one hand, the method has been successfully extended to include a group of simple aliphatic, aryl‐aliphatic, and dibasic acids; on the other hand the fact, illustrated by numerous literature references, that this method fails in the case of those acids which contain functional groups in α‐ or β‐position is pointed out.The mechanism of amide formation from acid and urea, based on the interaction of carboxylic acid and cyanic acid ‐ the latter being formed by decomposition of urea ‐, is suggested and discussed. The formation of cyanuric acid, isolated and identified in some experiments, is discussed in conjunction with some literature citations supporting the propose

摘要:
AbstractA list of atomic parachors is given and with its aid, parachors and molecular volumes of all kinds of molecules may be estimated. It is suggested that the atomic volume of a given element depends upon its electronic state so that the study of molecular volumes can throw light upon structural problems in chemistry, and this is illustrated by a consideration of certain compounds of the transition elements. In addition, examples are given to show how parachor values are likely to prove helpful in the study of ions in aqueous solutions.

AbstractFrom the simultaneous infrared spectrum of CS2and S2Br2three fundamental vibrational frequencies of S2Br2could be determined. A fourth fundamental frequency was observed in the infrared absorption spectrum of pure S2Br2, where also overtones and combination tones were observed. The S2Br2spectrum was compared with the S2Cl2spectrum.

Abstract4‐(2′‐piperidyl)butanediol‐1,2 (IX) and some of its nitrogen‐substituted derivatives were synthesized. These diols are subjected to a dehydrogenating degradation by means of lead tetraacetate. From IX is formed through this treatment, besides the formaldehyde to be expected, β‐(2‐piperidyl)‐propanal (I), a substance which, however, appeared to be unstable and could not be isolated as such. Dehydrogenating degradation of the N‐acetyl derivative, of the N‐benzoyl derivative or of the urethane of IX gives rise to the corresponding nitrogen‐substituted derivatives of I, which were previously obtained by Spielman et al
