摘要:
Chi square analysis of quantitative data from four studies indicates a complex relationship between socioeconomic rank and choice of close associates. Under some conditions, “equals” are chosen; under others, “superiors.” Hypotheses are suggested regarding the nature of the relationship(s) involved. The logical and statistical problems encountered are noted.

摘要:
Postulating that demographic, economic, and social variables are interdependent in explaining spatial mobility, this study accounts for 98 percent, 87 percent, and 95 percent, respectively, of the variations in the 1940–50 intercensal net migration rates of whites, nonwhites, and the total population of the 48 states and the District of Columbia. One of its contributions is the formulation of a technique which partitions the coefficients of multiple correlation, based on the three sets of structural variates, into their independent and interactive components.

摘要:
The differential characteristics of streams of migration are regarded as consequences of social and cultural constraints upon the head of a household. These constraints are expressed in terms of occupation of head of household. Environmental and structural factors will be mediated by the degree of future orientation and the degree of local orientation characterizing various occupations. Deductions for several characteristics of streams are made and supporting data are included.

摘要:
Catastrophically defeated a century ago by British colonists, the New Zealand Maori withdrew into isolated villages and thereby resisted acculturation. Although culture contact has increased markedly since World War II, Maori adolescents are currently handicapped in implementing their academic and vocational aspirations because their elders still cling to traditional nonachievement values.

摘要:
An effort is made to subject to empirical test the assumption that a large amount of guilt is associated with segregation. Subjects are students in a southern university. It is argued that, inasmuch as “the American Creed” is not the only set of relevant norms, the assumption represents a drastic simplification of the normative dimensions of the race issue.

摘要:
A modified version of Myrdal's “Rank Order of Discrimination Hypothesis” was tested in Jacksonville, Florida. No significant inverse relationship was found between white and Negro scales. Negroes ranked political disenfranchisement lower and segregation in public facilities higher than Myrdal postulated. Whites showed more resistance to equal job opportunities than predicted.

摘要:
In an attempt to clarify the relationship among anomie, authoritarianism, and prejudice a replication of the Srole and Rokeach-Roberts studies was conducted. Correlation analysis indicated the likelihood of a general factor accounting for the interrelationship among them. Factor analysis confirmed this hypothesis with one factor accounting for 45 percent of the total variance of items comprising the three scales.

摘要:
Simon's method for making causal inferences from patterns of intercorrelations is applied to a five variable sociological problem. The technique is used in exploratory fashion to develop successive causal models with progressively better prediction equations. It is argued that Simon's method yields more theoretical insights than does partial correlation.

摘要:
Varying degrees of overlap between instrumental and expressive hierarchies have been reported. An hypothesis which accounts for such disparity is that degree of correspondence between leader status and popularity is associated with the extent to which the instrumental activities of a group are dominant values for the group. Primary and secondary analyses provide confirmation.

摘要:
Expectant mothers who manifested high degrees of social-personal instability tended to regard themselves as more “sick” during pregnancy than did socially more stable women. Motivations to enact a sick role during pregnancy are viewed in relation to objective social status, dissatisfactions with current round of life, and with both upward and downward mobility.
