摘要:
Ozone is feasible as a disinfectant of nursery tank makeup water in a planned recycle system at the Dworshak National Fish Hatchery. A dosage of 3 mg/L ozone to the makeup water should prevent disease carrying organisms and algae from entering the nursery tank system by way of the makeup water which is taken from the North Fork of the Clearwater River.

摘要:
The recent discovery of chlorine-based halo–organic carcinogens in water supplies has highlighted the study of ozone as a suitable replacement to chlorine. Ozone is the most powerful oxidizing agent among water disinfectants. It has been used for water purification prior to chlorine and only its high cost has hampered its wider application. The recently discovered adverse effects of chlorine have buttresssed the use of ozone in water disinfection and today, over 1,100 water treatment plants around the world use ozone for disinfection. Large scale introduction of new disinfection systems in the developed countries will require suitable modifications in numerous existing water treatment plants. However, in the developing countries, the majority of the people do not yet have access to safe water supplies and the availability of plants which assure good quality water is ranked among the top priority targets in all national development programs in these countries.

摘要:
Determination of ozonation by–products using five organic compounds and secondary effluents was carried out. Formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, propionaldehyde, furfural, methlyglyoxal, glyoxylic acid, and pyruvic acid were detected by gas chromatography of their 2,4–dinitrophenyl–hydrazones. Acetic acid, formic acid, and propionic acid were also detected. One–sixth to one–fifth of the total COD was accounted for by the TOD summations of formaldehyde, methylglyoxal, pyruvic acid and acetic acid produced by the ozonation of secondary effluents.

摘要:
The study covers a comparison of actions of chlorine and of ozoneon maladorous products– amines and mercaptans. Oxygen requirements and , rates of consumption of reagents are examined. These products of ozonization are shown to do little harm to bacteria ; chloiamines are stable and have a certain degree of toxicity.

摘要:
A packed column for the absorption of ozone from ozonated air to further purify chemically clarified, biologically treated sewage, gave excellent results after fitting gas redistributor plates. Ozone utilization exceeded 85 % and the total losses over the unit process amounted to less than 5 % when an injector recontacting system was also incorporated into the calculation. Ozonation prior to active carbon treatment prolonged the operational life of the material considerably, probably through improved biological activity. Ozone could not entirely replace chlorine as a disinfectant.

ABSTRACT: Center, type and underline Abstract heading, capitalizing the first letter. A double-space should separate the heading from the abstract text. Indent approximately 1/2 inch (13 mm) from both left and right margins for typing the abstract. The abstract should be approximately 50 to 70 words in length. It should be factual and contain the main results and conclusions of the paper.
