摘要:
The treatment of dilute, cold wastewater using a rotating screen followed by ozone disinfection was investigated. Data on a total of 258 separate pilot plant runs conducted over a two year period are presented. A significant regression relationship was found for bacterial survival versus ozone utilized, BOD, and temperature. Bacterial survival was described by the relationship:

摘要:
Switzerland operates 24 ozone plants per 1 million inhabitants which brings it to first place in the world. A comparison between two Swiss waterworks, one with low frequency (Moos Waterworks) and one with increased frequency (Lengg Waterworks) shows the following operating costs: A total of 1.41 cents/m³ for the Lengg Waterworks, and 1.88 cents for the Moos Waterworks including capital, maintenance, and miscellaneous expenses, at a dosage of 1.5 g ozone/m³. To reduce the phenol compounds and the haloforms, it is advantageous to add a higher ozone concentration. This is also the case for removing color and UV extinction due to the dissolved organics. A higher dosage than normal will, however, have a negative effect on the flocculation and on the bacterial regrowth if ozonation is not followed by granular activated carbon (GAC) treatment. During a plant breakdown, however, the availability of increased ozone dosage above normal levels is important to operate the partially disabled plant.

摘要:
A method of catalytic ozonation in an aqueous system using hydrogen peroxide (H202) as a catalyst has been developed. In aqueous solutions or organic compounds including refractory organics such as acetic acid (6odium salt), acetone, etc., the addition of H02. accelerates the ozone reaction to reduce total organic carbon (TOC) in all cases. The reaction rate and efficiency were dependent on pH, and on the concentration of H2O2and TOC in the reaction system.

摘要:
High (e.g., 0.1 to 0.5M.) concentrations of EDTA, HEDTA, and other organic complexing agents are present in some of the nuclear waste solutions currently stored at the U. S. Department of Energy Hanford Reservation in Southeastern Washington State. Ozonation of these alkaline solutions smoothly and efficiently destroys the organic material thereby facilitating ion exchange removal of 90sr and other long-lived cationic radionuclides. Successful benchscale ozonation tests have been performed with both synthetic and actual waste liquids.

摘要:
French coastal water pollution has necessitated construction of shellfish depuration stations. Physical and chemical studies indicated that while ozone and bromates are absent from ozonized seawater, there is an increase in dissolved oxygen and residual oxidants. Water quality, temperature, and variations in shellfish filtration capacities appear to govern oxidant longevity.

Methods for direct and indirect measurements of biofilm development (fouling) are presented. Laboratory systems were developed to determine rate and extent of fouling as a function of wall shear stress, water quality, and bulk temperature. Experimental systems were also developed to evaluate the effects of oxidizing biocides and to compare their relative efficiency.

An ozone pilot plant which supplied the makeup water to an existing clarifier-biofilter recycle system was installed at a fish hatchery raising cutthroat and steelhead fry. Analysis of daily bacterial plate counts indicated that ozone consistently provided better sterilization of the makeup water than an existing ultraviolet system.

The biocidal activity of ozone and chlorine were compared in a fresh water study at a nuclear power plant. Ozone was a more effective biocide than chlorine and did not produce the persistent oxidant residuals associated with chlorine in water.
