摘要:
In order to evaluate the effect of preozonation on GAC adsorbability and biodegradability and to discuss the performance of BAC, three kinds of batch experiments have been conducted, using humic acid as the test substance. Conclusively, it is recognized that preozonation evidently improves the biodegradability of humic acid, but the equilibrium adsorption constant k, is not changed. However, the adsorption rate is greatly improved. Based on these results and continuous experiments, the characteristics of the removal mechanism of organics by a BAC filter and a GAC filter are compared.

摘要:
The ozonation products of humic acids are toxicologically interesting for two reasons: by their actual toxicity, but also because of their complexing capacity vis-à-vis trace metals present in water which are, because of this fact, incompletely eliminated by potabilization techniques. Determination of the ultimate toxicity of ozonized humic acids is achieved with the aid of the medium term Daphnia magnatest. Statistical treatment of the two lethal parameters and of the four sublethal parameters have shown a toxicity for ozonized humic acids in solution, at a concentration of 100 mg−1.

摘要:
Designand construction specifications of a 3 mgd (12, 187 m3/day) demonstration plant to treat water by ozonation followed by diatomaceous earth (DE) filtration at New York City's Jerome Park Reservoir are described. The primary treatment objectives are to maintain a treated water quality of turbidity below 0.2 NTU, color below 3 color units, and iron and manganese below 0.3 mg/L. Three process trains will be employed, each operating at a maximum of 1 mgd (3,786 m3/day), to test variousmodificationsof theozone/DE process. The demonstration plant is scheduled to operate approximately one year, beginning in April 1986, to provide data for a full-scale plant to be constructed later in the decade.

The effect of bromide ion, organic carbon concentration (natural aquatic humic substances), pH, and solar irradiation on the formation of bromoform in ozonated groundwater has been studied. The studies were conducted on four unique samples of groundwater taken from different regions of the Biscayne Aquifer in southern Florida. All other conditions being equal, increases in bromide ion concentrations resulted in increases in CHBrg formation. In three of the four samples, CHBr3formation decreased as the pH level increased from 5 to 9. The fourth sample exhibited an opposite trend whereby the CHBr3concentration increased with increasing pH. Bromoform concentration increased with increased O3concentration over an ozone dosage range of 3.4 to 6.7 mg/L.

In 1979. the California Safe Drinking Water Act established a new turbidity limit of 0.5 turbidity unit for drinking waters. To meet this new standard at the Owens River Aqueductplantin Los Angelesi aprocessinvolvingpreozonation and direct filtration was tested and selected. In addition to providing water which meets the required turbidity standard, the ozone process reduces THM levels by about 50%, allowsfiltrationrates of 15 gpm/ft2, reducescoagulation requirements, increases the removal of organics, thus reducing final chlorination requirements, and provides the most cost–effective reduction of levels of taste, odor, and color. The new Los Angeles water treatment plant will be on–line in 1986.
