摘要:
By oxidizing treatment of waste waters, which are normally scarcely accessible to biodegradation, the molecular structure of the compounds can be altered in such a way that biodegradation becomes possible. It is shown by the example of two types of waste water how rapidly the elimination of persistent substances proceeds by biological treatment after preceding ozonization. A gradual improvement of the elimination rate can often be achieved by combining ozone treatment with adsorption procedures.

摘要:
Laboratory tests underline the improvement which ozonation brings about in the removal of organic micropollutants in surface water with activated carbon filtration. Optimal ozone dosages correspond to the stabilization of the asymptotical diminution of UV absorption. HPLC analysis shows that, though ozone sometimes degrades organic compounds into more polar and less adsorbable products, improvement in GAC filtration is attained through increased bacterial activity, as revealed by measurements of ATP, of dehydrogenase and of oxygen consumed.

摘要:
The experiments were conducted on full scale at the Mont-Valérien treatment plant treating the Seine river downstream from Paris. Over one year, the efficiency of different types of full-scale slow filters (sand, sand +granular activated carbon (GAC), with and without preozonation) and pilot scale rapid GAC filters with preozonation were compared. Slow sand filter remove an average of 10% TOC primarily through biodegradation. Slow GAC remove an addi-tionnal 15% TOC primarily through adsorption. The total reduction is thus 25%. Ozone removes 5% but does not enhance GAC performance.

摘要:
The use of ozone in the treatment of drinking water in the form of a highly concentrated aqueous solution yields technological advantages compared with the traditional use of ozone in its gaseous state. However, for a comparative calculation of profitability, it is essential to know the ozone decomposition rate in the water solution in question. The present paper reports for the first time investigations with respect to this question under semi-commercial conditions and compares the results with laboratory tests made at another place.
