AbstractPotential areas of development in optically based adaptive signal processing are considered together with an assessment of current technological directions. The rapid adoption of superhigh‐throughput lightwave communications media and systems suggests that fully optical signal processing would be very desirable to take advantage of the speed. 摘要:
AbstractAn approach is described how to incorporate knowledge of symbolic/logic character into a conventional framework of noisy observations in dynamical systems. The idea is based on approximating the optimal solution that could theoretically be computed if a complete Bayesian framework were known (and infinite computational power were available). The nature of the approximations, the deviations from optimality and the sensitivity toad hocparameters are specifically addressed. This merging of logic and numerics is essential in many problems of adaptation in control and signal processing.

AbstractA balloon‐born stabilized platform has been developed for the remotely operated altitude‐azimuth pointing of a millimetre wave telescope system. This paper presents a development and implementation of model reference adaptive control (MRAC) for the azimuth‐pointing system of the stabilized platform. The primary goal of the controller is to achieve pointing RMS better than 0.1°. Simulation results indicate that MRAC can achieve pointing RMS better than 0.01°. AbstractBy means of minimizing a quadratic cost function and employing a modified least squares estimator with a dead zone, a new self‐tuning controller is derived. Under simple assumptions the stability of the resulting closed‐loop adaptive control system is ensured in the presence of bounded external disturbances even for non‐minimum phase systems. The analysis performed also gives the upper bounds of tracking errors and parameter estimates. AbstractIn this paper we propose for scalar plants an adaptive LQG controller with adaptive input sensitivity function/loop transfer recovery of an associated adaptive LQ design. The sensitivity recovery can be viewed as a frequency‐shaped loop recovery where the weights involve a sensitivity function. The adaptive loop/sensitivity recovery is achieved by feeding back the estimation residuals to the control through a stable bounded input, bounded output (BIBO) adaptive filterQk. For simplicity we consider fixed but uncertain plants in the model set and identification schemes where there are consistent parameter estimates. For non‐minimum phase plants an asymptotic partial recovery is achieved via a recursive least squares update of the BIBO filterQk. The degree of recovery can be prescribed a priori between zero and the maximum possible. For the case of minimum phase plant estimates, full loop recovery may be achieved asymptotically by prescribing a maximum degree of recovery.The motivation for proposing the new adaptive control algorithm is to enhance robustness of adaptive LQG designs, taking advantage of the robustness enhancement properties of sensitivity/loop recovery for off‐line designs.
