Groups of chicks were infected with a virulent strain of Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) and treated with either danofloxacin or tylosin while one infected group was left untreated and a further group was uninfected and untreated. Control ofclinical signs and mortality was better with danofloxacin than tylosin and therewas significantly (P<0.05)greater weight gain with danofloxacin at 21 daysafter infection. However ht necropsy the prevalence of lesions of the airsac wallswas similar in both groups. MG was recovered from fewer live chicks for the firstweek following treatment with danofloxacin, but at 2 weeks and at necropsy, atthe termination of the experiment, it was recovered from a similar proportion ofbirds in both treated groups. This was reflected also in the serological results atthe end of the trial.

Morantel could not be detected (<0.05 pg/ml)in the plasma of cattle or goats followingthe oral administration of morantel tartrate at a dose rate of 10 mg/kgbodyweight. No morantel was detected in the milk of lactating goats except inone animal where a concentration of 0.092 pg/ml was detected at 8 h after drugadministration. Morantel was highly effective against Cooperia oncophora infec‐tions in calves treated 6, 9 or 18 days after infection; however, was highlyeffective against Ostertagia ostertagi only when treated 18 days after infection.Morantel did not affect the fecundity of adult 0.ostertagi surviving treatment 18days after infection which had similar average numbers of eggs in their uteri(range 13.4 f 0.73‐16.8 L 0.98) as did parasites from control animals (range12.0 k 0.70‐13.6 2 0.66). Morantel could be detected at a concentration of 96 k4.5 pgig (dry weight) in the faeces of a calf 24 h after treatment with I0 mgikgbodyweight of morantel tartrate. The concentration of morantel in replicatesamples of this faeces exposed to natural atmosphere, but not to soil or soilorganisms, declined slowly over the following 322 days. At day 322 after the startof the experiment 8.8 pg/g of morantel could be measured in the remainingfaecal material. Urinary excretion of nietals during treatment with 2‐rnercaptopropioiiylglycine (2‐MPG) was studied in 11 normal and 20 cystinuric male dogs. 'Ihe resultswere compared with those obtained during D‐penicillamine treatment.Twenty‐four‐h urine and morning samples of urine were taken for determina‐tion of 13 metals before and during treatment. After single intravenous and oralD‐penicillamine treatment of the normal dogs, significant increases were foundin the 24‐11 urinary excretion of Ca, Cu and Zn. Oral intake of D‐penicillamineincreased the excretion of Ch, Cr, Fe and Mg as well. No effect on renal metalexcretion was observed after single intravenous and up to 2 months of daily oraltreatment with 2‐MPG.In 14 cystinuric dogs no effect was found after single intravenous and oraladministrations of 2‐MPG. However, after oral treatment of six cystinuric dogswith 2‐MPG for 2–4 months, significantly increased excretions of Ca and Mgwere found. Fourteen of the cystinuric dogs were also investigated after 2–6years of continuous 2‐MPG treatment, and after this period no significantelevation in the urinary excretion of metals was found.
