SummaryBlood cell lysates of chickens and turkeys were subjected to starch gel electrophoresis and the gels were stained for adenosine deaminase. Two zones were observed singly or together in the electrophoretic patterns of each lysate. Zones of chicken lysates were analogous in electrophoretic mobility to those of turkeys. An extra zone which appeared in patterns of a sample stored over one month was not detected in patterns of a second aliquot of stored sample treated with a reducing agent prior to electrophoresis.Family data involving 110 chicken progeny and 221 turkey progeny supported the hypothesis that these zones were controlled by two codominant alleles designated ADA.4and ADAB. In the two Leghorn strains studied ADABwas much more frequent than ADA.4, but the frequency distribution was reversed in the Small White turkey strain examined.

SummarySeventeen enzyme loci have been assayed for electrophoretically detectable variation in a population of the marine bivalveScrobicularia plana. Mean heterozygosity is 0.120 ± 0.033. In a comparison involving thirteen enzymes there is a significant correlation between heterozygosity inS. planaandMytilus edulisand a suggestion of lower mean heterozygosity inS. plana. SummaryThis paper describes the effect of gel buffer pH on the resolution of bovine serum amylase (Amylase I) isozymes in starch gel and the consequences for the understanding of the genetics of this locus. The two main findings are: (1) the existence of a satellite isozyme E to isozyme C which at pH 7.3 has the same mobility as the B isozyme but which at pH 8.0 migrates slower than B, and (2) the finding of three allelesAmI A, AmI BandAmI Cin British cattle populations previously reported as having onlyAmI BandAmI C.
