摘要:
SummaryIn contrast to sheep and goats, chronic and acute anemia induced by bleeding does not appear to alter hemoglobin types in cattle. Three adult cattle twins of type A and two non‐twin calves of type AB sustained anemias with hemoglobin levels of 80 % and 50 % of normal without the appearance of a new type. In addition, no changes in the chimeric red cell mixtures were observed in the twin

摘要:
SummaryStarch gel electrophoresis according to Gahne (1966) reveals three new phenotypes designated FI, I and IS in horse serum albumin. Family material comprising 97 sire families with a total number of 2742 foals and their dams and population material comprising 2867 adult horses representative of the Swedish Trotter breed were examined. The results were consistent with a genetic theory of three codominant, autosomal allelesF, IandScontrolling the six albumin phenotypes observed. The gene frequencies were estimated to be 0.489, 0.049 and 0.462, respectively, for theF, IandSgenes in the Swedish Trotter breed. The risk of making false exclusions in paternity controls in the albumin system, if theIallele is not considered, is discussed.

摘要:
SummaryComparative studies of the blood of newly born goats and sheep have indicated a number of mechanisms which are responsible for a decreasing affinity for molecular oxygen in these developing animals during the first 40 to 60 days after birth. The concentration of 2,3‐DPG in the red cells of young goats increases four to sixfold during the first 3 to 4 days of life, and this increase is associated with a marked decrease in the cellular pH; 2,3‐DPG does not bind to hemoglobins of goats and the decreased affinity for oxygen of goat blood at this period is apparently due to the lowered pH produced by the large increase of intracellular anions. Similar changes occur in young lambs. After 15 to 20 days the changes of the dissociation curve are related more to structural differences between adult and fetal hemoglobins; cellular pH moves closer to the values of adult red cells. In goats of this age the predominate hemoglobins are those with β chains and these have dissociation curves shifted further to the right than other adult hemoglobins. In young lambs Hb‐C is found only in association with Hb‐A but the amount present seldom exceeds 5 to 10%. The oxygen affinities of sheep Hb‐A and Hb‐C are identical but higher than that o

摘要:
SummaryA genetic polymorphism of the purine nucleoside phosphorylase is described in red cells of cattle. Electrophoresis distinguishes two types, one associated with a high activity (H), the other with a low activity (L). Breeding tests suggest the segregation of two alleles: a dominant allele for high activity (H) and a recessive allele for low activity (L). On the basis of quantitative estimation of enzyme activity, the individuals of the H phenotype can be separated in two classes, the enzyme activity in one class being twice as high as the activity in the other class. It is suggested that the class with the highest enzymatic activity corresponds to the homozygote for theHallele, the other class to the heterozygote. In fact, an A.I. bull (H phenotype and with the highest enzymatic activity) mated with cows of the L phenotype, gave offspring of the H phenotype, only. The decline of activity, with age, is stressed. Four breeds have been typed. The Charolais breed is characterized by a high frequency of theHallele.

摘要:
SummaryBlood samples from 180 Guernsey cows and 599 Holstein cows were typed for post‐albumins (Poa). The genotypes were compared for breeding efficiency, mean return interval, anestrus interval, service interval, gestation length and lactation length. Poa SF cows had a significantly shorter (P<0.01) mean return interval than SS cows. The effect is associated with order of insemination, but is independent of lactation number. None of the other parameters showed genotypic difference

摘要:
SummaryMore than 300 kidneys from the local bacon factory were investigated and it was shown that the enzyme sorbitol dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.14) exhibits a genetically determined polymorphism. While homozygous individuals yield only a single enzyme band after starch gel electrophoresis, heterozygotes show multiple bands. On the same material also 6‐phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.44) and lactate dehydrogenase were investigated, the former showed also clear genetic variants while the latter appeared only in one form.Gene frequencies for different breeds and types of pigs are given and the results discusse

摘要:
SummaryThe distribution of the R‐r‐i blood group system was studied in eight breeds of Australian sheep. The recessiveigene was found to be absent from Merinos and, consequently, the i phenotype was absent in Merino crosses. Distribution of the groups in Dorset Horns and Ryelands was found to be strikingly different from that of other breeds. Two animals were found to have anti‐r antibodies in
