SummaryThree new horse blood group factors designated E2, E' and Y were described. Evidence was presented that these three factors as well as the factors D, J and E1known before, belong to the D system established by Stormont&Suzuki (1964). That system was thus extended from being a two factor, three allele system, to the most complex system known in the horse so far. It was demonstrated that the D system is closed through the factors E2and E'. However a few exceptions to that rule were encountered.A minimum of 10 alleles, two of which were extremely rare seemed to control the system. SummaryTransferrin types were determined for flocks of Finnish Landrace, Clun Forest, Soay and Merino sheep and gene frequencies were calculated. Analysis of ratios of transferrin types in segregating matings of Finnish Landrace and Clun Forest revealed a significant excess of heterozygotes in matings of heterozygous rams with heterozygous and with homozygous ewes. In Finnish Landrace, matings of sheep homozygous forTfcto those heterozygous forTfCgave a significant excess of homozygous male lambs and heterozygous female lambs. Finnish Landrace ewes of transferrin type BD had smaller litters than ewes of other types.

SummaryStarch gel electrophoresis according to Okada&Sasaki (1970) revealed six regions of esterase activity designated I to VI. Further genetic variation was found in esterase region III in this study. Two phenotypes, A and O, were observed by means of urea denaturation of chicken liver extracts. SummaryThe heat stability of the precipitin reactants of normal chicken sera was determined. Type A sera were found to be more resistant to heating than those of type B. This difference may be used for an easy and reliable classification of both types of chicken sera.
