摘要:
SummaryThree regions of esterase activity designated I, II, and III were found on zymograms of vitreous fluids. Region I, the most anodal, exhibited two zones, one of which (the slower) was in all samples, occasionally accompanied by a second band which moved just ahead of it. Likewise, Region III, the most cathodal, exhibited two phenotypes, a common one‐band and a rare two‐band phenotype. Region II was occupied by one‐ and two‐banded combinations of five different zones (a, b, c, d and e), which indicated that each band was the product of an allelic series of genes(EsIIa,EsIIb, etc.).Only 11 of 15 expected phenotypes were encountered because of the rarity of allelesEsIIaandEsIIc. The most common allele,EsIIb, had a frequency of 0.83 in Puget Sound hake and 0.60 in Pacific Ocean hake; this difference was highly significant. In the Pacific Ocean population agreement was good between observed and expected numbers, assuming Hardy‐Weinberg equilibrium. In the Puget Sound samples deviations from expected frequencies did not appear in females or first‐year fish, but deviations were significant in males 2 years and older; these deviations occurred as a marked deficiency of bd males combined with an excess of bb and dd males, particularly the latter. Inhibition tests indicated that these isozymes are B esterases. Estimations of molecular weight for the isozymes of Region II based on chromatographic and ultracentrifugation methods were 70,000 and 73,500, r

摘要:
SummaryGenetic linkage of six loci for polymorphic proteins in chickens (Alb, Tf, Pa, Ov, G3andG2) and three loci for somatic markers (W/w,P/pandI/i) was investigated. The existence of close linkage was proved betweenOvand G3. No sign of linkage was detected between the other loci.

摘要:
SummarySeminal vesicle fluid of bulls contains a haemolytic factor towards which cattle erythrocytes react with different sensitivities. According to the degree of sensitivity, cattle were divided into three groups. The first and most numerous group (R) comprised animals with resistant erythrocytes, in the second, least numerous group there were animals (S) with very sensitive erythrocytes and finally, the third group of animals (RS) was between the very resistant and very sensitive groups. The haemolytic factor was thermostable, inhibited by egg yolk, homologous and heterologous spermatozoa and testicle tissues and could not be blocked or inhibited by immune antibodies.

摘要:
SummaryImmunoelectrophoretic methods were used to observe the formation of precipitates with esterase activity in the blood serum, spermatozoa and the genital tract fluid of bulls, and also in the follicular fluid of cows. Fractions with esterase activity were found in the seminal vesicle fluid and the ampullar fluid of all investigated animals. Considerable individual differences in the formation of precipitates with esterase activity were found in the mentioned fluids. Ejaculated and ampullar spermatozoa, spermatozoa from the tail of the epididymis and the testicle fluid formed fractions with esterase activity only in some individuals. Esterase activity was not detected in the fluid of the tail of the epididymis of bulls nor in the follicular fluid of cows.

摘要:
SummaryFive phenotypes within the M‐L blood group system of sheep were identified with three reagents: anti‐L(m), anti‐M and anti‐M'. Factor M' only occurred in combination with M. The serological properties were studied and the potassium concentrations in the red cells of the various phenotypes were compared. Like M, the L antigen was only weakly developed on the red cells of newborn lambs, and it was only when adult low potassium levels were established that full L activity was reached. These results support the hypothesis that antigen L is acting as an inhibitor of active potassium tr

摘要:
SummarySix polymorphic protein systems in 15 chicken breeds have been investigated. In the Silkie breed another variant of G3 proteins (G3AFSilkie) has been observed characterized by higher electrophoretic mobility than G3A. The frequencies of individual alleles in various lines and different generations have been determined in two breeds (White Leghorn and White Cornish).

摘要:
SummaryEsterase activity was determined in 955 serum samples of Gotland sheep. The activities showed a wide range and could be distinguished in six types. Family data were in agreement with the theory of three multiple alleles controlling the esterase activities (Lee, 1966). The following gene frequencies were estimated:Esa= 0.15,Esb= 0.75 andEsc= 0.10. TheEsaallele controlled an enzym with high hydrolysis rate of α‐naphthyl acetate, medium high of β‐naphthyl acetate and low of indophenyl acetate. The enzym controlled by theEsballele had medium high hydrolysis rate of α‐ and β‐naphthyl acetate and relatively high of indophenyl acetate. The enzym of theEscallele had low activities for all three substrates. The hydrolysis rate was increased by the addition of calcium. In starch‐gel electrophoresis the esterase types could be divided in four groups due to the staining intensity of the arylesterase zone but no difference in migration rates

摘要:
Summary1. Potassium concentrations in erythrocytes and plasma were influenced byKagenotype and breed.2. Dominance at theKalocus controlling red cell potassium concentration was incomplete.3. The lower limit of the difference between heterozygous and homozygous low phenotypes was 4.1 meq per litre.4. Sheep of the Finnish Landrace breed had relatively high potassium concentrations and the highest gene frequency of the recessive allele, of those examined.
