AbstractReorientational correlation functions have been obtained from the analysis of the totally symmetric vibrations ν4, ν5and ν2of liquid cyclohexane. For the interpretation of the data, the Kubo line shape theory was assumed to be valid. AbstractRaman intensity measurements have been made of cadmium thiocyanate aqueous solutions containing various ratios of total cadmium to total thioeyanate. Both Job and mole‐ratio methods indicated existence of a distinct complex species with a cadmium to thiocyanate ratio from 1 to 4. All average ligand number values obtained from three different series of experiments lie on the same curve, meaning that only mononuclear species are formed. Four overall stability constants have been calculated. The spectra are consistent with mononuclear complexes in solution, some having SCN−attached to the metal through the sulphur, others through the nitrogen. A band observed at 2132 cm−1was assigned to the Cd(SCN)+complex while bands observed at 2102 and 784 cm−1were attributed to higher members of the stepwise Cd(NCS)n2−nseries. The spectra of solid Cd(SCN)2were in accord with a bridged thiocyanate structure. Assignments were supported by x‐ray structu

AbstractInfrared and Raman spectra of (bromomethyl)cyclopropane and epibromohydrin have been recorded. Reversible spectral changes which accompany changes in temperature indicate the existence of an equilibrium mixture ofgaucheandcisconformers for (bromomethyl)cyclopropane. Thegaucheform is more stable, and from the variable temperature studies an enthalpy difference of 2.0±0.2 kcal mol−1has been obtained for the liquid phase. For epibromohydrin, two non‐equivalentgaucheconformers have been identified, and thegauche‐1form is more stable than thegauche‐2by 0.80±0.20 kcal mol−1in the liquid phase. Additionally there is evidence for a third conformer, presumably thecisform, but characterization of this conformer has been limited by the complexity of the spectra associated with thegauche‐1 andgauche‐2 forms. Consequently, only a lower limit can be given for the ΔHseparating thecisandgauche‐1 conformers. The results are consistent with previous observations for

AbstractRaman spectra of two hydroxy azoic model compounds: 3,5‐dimethoxy‐4‐hydroxyazobenzene and 2,6‐dimethoxy‐4‐hydroxyazobenzene are compared.
