AbstractPolarized Raman spectra of water in the ν(OH) and δ(OH2) regions have been recorded for aqueous solutions of electrolytes of types AB and AB2(A = Li, Na, K, Ca; B = Cl, Br, I, NO3) over a wide concentration range. Variations in frequencies, intensities, band shapes and band widths with changes in concentration and in the nature of the ions are discussed.The isotropic and anisotropic components of the intensity of the ν(OH) band have been analysed as a function of concentration. It is found that the function 45(a')2is approximately independent of, or decreases slightly with, the concentration of the alkali metal halides whereas for the nitrates it increases linearly with concentration. The function 3(γ′)2increases very slowly with concentration for both halides and nitrates. These results have been compared with those obtained for pure water when the temperature is varied over the range −20 to 120°C.Despite the difference in nature of the two types of perturbation (ionic and thermal), all the results can be interpreted in terms of modifications of intra‐and inter‐molecular couplings and Fermi resonance between vibrational modes of wat

AbstractThe coherent Raman spectroscopic techniques CARS and PARS have been used to study glyoxal (C2H2O2) in the vapour phase. The following fundamental vibrational frequencies fortrans‐glyoxal have been determined: ν1= 2840 ± 2, ν2= 1742.5 ± 0.5 and ν3= 1353.5 ± 0.5 cm−1. Several hot and combination bands have also been identified. The rovibrational contour of the ν2band is unexpectedly broad and structured and a variety of possible sources of this apparent anomaly are investigated. AbstractThe infrared spectra of liquidcis‐ andtrans‐1, 2‐diiodocyclopropane were measured from 4000 to 200 cm−1. Raman spectra between 4000 and 50 cm−1of the two compounds as liquids and of the solidcisisomer were also obtained. All of the 21 normal vibrations of the two molecules were convincingly assigned on the basis of Raman depolarization ratios and group frequency correlations. AbstractThe divided disc method was utilized for the measurement of the resonance Raman intensities of adsorbed dyes. Only one band of crystal violet exhibits appreciable change in its relative intensity when adsorbed on silica gel. The spectral features of the adsorbed crystal violet are similar to those reported for the SERS spectrum of the dye adsorbed on a silver electrode. The resonance Raman spectrum of the adsorbed methyl orange resembles that of the protonated dye crystallized from acidic solution, but the intensities are considerably enhanced on adsorption. From the spectral pattern, the adsorbed methyl orange was proved to take the same azonium form as was reported as the SER scatterer. The Raman scattering coefficients of the CC stretching band of methyl orange excited at 488.0 and 514.5 nm were proved to be enhanced on adsorption of silica gel by factors ofca50 and 100, respectivel

AbstractL'étude Raman des verres de la sériexB2O3(1–x)GeO2obtenus par fusion a été rélisée pour des poucentages molaires en B2O3compris entrex= 0.2 et 0.9. L'apparition de raies, inexistantes dans les spectres des deux constituants purs, est la principlae catactéristique des spectres enregistrés. En particulier, les bandes de fréquences 720 et 1060 cm−1sont attribuées à des liaisons GeOB. AbstractA detailed temperature‐dependent Raman study of oriented single crystals of CdTiF6·6H2O down to 10 K was carried out in the regions of internal vibrations and lattice modes. The line width, frequency shift and intensities of the modes associated with the [Cd(H2O)6]2+and [TiF6]2−octahedra show abrupt changes at temperatures around 200 and 80 K, respectively, and many doubly degenerate modes split into two components. AbstractRaman spectra of copper and silver agyrodites containing different halides were studied. The observed spectra are very similar to those of copper and silver thiophosphates. The spectra were interpreted as resulting from internal modes of the tetrahedral thiophosphate anion, PS43−, indicating that these agyrodites can possibly be formulated as triple salts, M3PS4· M2S · MX (M = Cu and Ag; X = Cl, Br and I), being basically ionic compounds consisting of monoatomic ions with only polyatomic one covalently bonded PS43−
