摘要:
The primary objective of the study was to gain information on the rate of spread of cetyl alcohol on a melting snow surface. Point applications of radioactive cetyl-1-C14 alcohol were placed on the surface of snow contained in cubical wooden, boxes 25 cm on each side. The boxes with snow were placed in a controlled environment of 2°C and with a relative humidity of 95%. Under the study conditions, cetyl alcohol spread as far as 10 cm within one hour and fifteen minutes. Distribution of the alcohol over the surface was highly variable.

摘要:
The present paper reports on some practical experiences gained in computing unit hydrographs (UH) according to the “classical” linear theory. The sizes of the drainage basins varied from 50 to 800 km2of hilly country.

摘要:
A powder avalanche moved a 3,200 kg truck 19,8 m horizontally and dropped it 15 2 m into a gully without serious damage. Data from the site are used to compute the velocity of snow-free air and of a snow-air mixture necessary to cause this event. These velocities are found to be within the velocity of the avalanche as estimated from the equations published by A. Voellmy.

摘要:
The apparent precision of estimated areal rainfall is affected by persistent areal pattern. The areal pattern and random variations can be separated by correlation between records in two periods of a network of gauges.

摘要:
An assumption is made that a river profile represents a steady state analogous to a condition of minimum entropy production in irreversible thermodynamics. In this analogy temperature represents elevation, and heat flow represents mass flow. Including a necessary relation between rate of mass transport and slope, the assumption leads to profiles that are concave to the sky, as found in nature. The actual profile depends on the transport-slope relation.

摘要:
In any scheme of stream ordering, the order assigned to a given stream segment depends on the scale of the map used to make the drainage basin analysis, since new forkings at the headwaters may become observable as the map scale is increased. If one new set of forkings becomes observable, the Strahler orders increase by one; the consistent (“logarithmic”) scheme of orders recently proposed by Scheidegger changes values in varying amounts depending on the topology of the newly observable streams.

摘要:
Sir Charles Cotton (1964) has pointed out that in an earlier paper (Carlston, 1963) which related drainage density to hydrology, there was insufficient emphasis on the role of climate in its effect on drainage density. Re-examination of the relation of drainage density to base flow in the 15 basins originally described has revealed additional evidence that base flow is affected by precipitation or recharge (a climatic variable), while varying inversely with drainage density.
