摘要:
A naturally occurring water resistant soil was exposed to different burning times and temperatures after which the soil samples were tested for non-wettability. The less intense treatments produced an extremely non-wettable condition. Temperatures of 800 and 900 degrees applied for 20 minutes completely destroyed the non-wettable property. Heat treatments within the realm of soil temperatures existing during wildfires were capable of producing the extreme non-wettable condition. The increased surface runoff and erosion from burned southern California watersheds could be the result of this relationship.

摘要:
Theoretically, a small drainage basin may be divided into equal areas of downward flow and upward flow of groundwater. In regions where surface water does not obscure the phenomena produced by groundwater, these areas can be differentiated by mapping springs, seepages, groundwater levels, flowing wells, chemical quality of water, natural vegetation, salt precipitates, quality of crops, soap holes, and moist and dry depressions.

摘要:
The concept of dominant (stream) discharge in geomorphology has not been firmly defined. By defining it, on rational grounds, as that discharge at which, over a long period of time, most sediment has been transported, a definite value can be computed for a stream for which there are available duration-curve values of daily discharge and a sediment-rating curve. This has been done for 5 eastern and 4 western rivers. The dominant discharge, when expressed in terms of percentage duration, is remarkably consistent, and is found to be a lower discharge than has generally been considered as dominant.

In studies at San Dimas Experimental Forest, near Glendora, California, the water storage capacity of grasses was proportional to the product of average height and percent of ground cover. The total interception loss for a storm was a function of the storage capacity and the number of showers per storm.
