AbstractStarch granules (defatted and hydrated) are completely dissolved by prolonged contact with urea under extremely mild conditions (10M, pH 6,2 at 26–28°C). The microscopic examination has revealed that the granules undergo a considerable swelling in contact with the urea, followed by a progressive leaching of the starch components, with a simultaneous loss in birefringence, increase in viscosity and clarity of the solution leading to the complete dissolution of the granules. The dispersion profiles display a biphasic pattern and appear to be characteristic of the source. Amylose is isolated from the solution by different procedures. Trace quantities of amylose from amylopectin +ction are removed by adsorption on defatted cellulose. The purified products are recovered by precipitation with ethanol and washed free of urea with ethanol. The amylose and the amylopectin are characterized by determining their iodine binding capacity (IBC), blue value (BV), intrinsic viscosity ([η]), and beta‐amylosis limit. AbstractRadikalische Copolymerisationen einer Reihe von Aminosäure‐alkenylestern (1a–e) mit 1‐Vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidinon (2) und 2,2′‐Azoisobutyronitril als Starter werden beschrieben. Die erhaltenen Polymere sind sowohl in Wasser als auch in zahlreichen organischen +ösungsmitteln leicht löslich und können als Trägerpolymere zur Synthese von Peptiden verwendet werden. Aus dem Copolymer3a, aus2undN‐tert‐Butyloxycarbonylalanin‐vinylester (1a), wird nach Abspaltung der Aminoschutzgruppe3berhalten, an das eine weitere Aminosäure gekuppelt wird. AbstractThe synthesis of tris(π‐allyl)uranium halides (2a–c) and their behaviour in the stereospecific polymerization of butadiene are reported. Independently from the nature of the halogen bound to uranium, very high 1,4‐cis‐polymer with a fairly good yield is obtained. AbstractBulk isothermal crystallization kinetics of some highly tactic 1,4‐cis‐polybutadienes obtained with a new catalyst based on uranium derivatives were dilatometrically measured over a crystallization temperature (Tc) range from −30 to 0°C.The corresponding experimental melting temperatures (T *m) of uranium polybutadiene range from 3 to 12,5°C. A relationship between the isothermal bulk half‐crystallization time (t1/2) at −10°C and the molecular weight (MW) has been obtained.High MW fractions crystallize faster than low MW fractions as previously reported for 1,4‐cis‐polyisoprene. AbstractThe ternary system FeCl3/2,2′‐dipyridyl (1) (Dip)/epoxypropane (2) was found to be active as catalyst for the polymerization of acrylonitrile (4). The lack of one of the catalyst components makes the system inactive for polymerization. AbstractNach dem Metathesemechanismus ist die Bildung von Polypentenylenen (3) nicht nur aus Cyclopenten (1), sondern auch aus dem bei der Polymerisation von Cyclopenten im 1. Reaktionsschritt gebildeten 1,6‐Cyclodecadien (2) zu erwarten. Entsprechende Bemühungen,cis,cis‐1,6‐Cyclodecadien (2) in Polypentenylene zu überführen, blieben vor längerer Zeit ohne Erfolg. Die Ursache dafür dürfte in der bei Raumtemperatur vorliegenden Konformation dieses Cycloolefins zu suchen sein. Es gelang nun – in übereinstimmung mit den an Dreidingmodellen gewonnenen Voraussagen –cis,cis‐1,6‐Cyclodecadien‐(2) bei Temperaturen über 50°C in Cyclopenten (1) zu spalten. Dies eröffnet die technisch interessante Möglichkeit, unabhängig von C5‐Crackolefinschnitten reines1aus äthylen und Butadien zu synthetisieren.Die massenspektrometrische Analyse der bei den Umsetzungen auftretenden Nebenprodukte gab Hinweise für die Richtigkeit unserer Hypothese über den Verlauf der Polypentenylen‐Bildung und führte zu Erkenntnissen über die Ursachen von häufig unerwünschten Nebenreaktionen bei der Umsetzung von Olefinen mit
