AbstractDas partielle spezifische Volumen vonm.m′‐Ditolyl in Toluol wurde durch Dichtemessungen über den gesamten Konzentrationsbereich bei 25°C bestimmt. Das hieraus berechnete molare Überschußvolumen beträgt −0,21 cm3/Mol bei einem Volumenbruch von 0,5. Die partiellen spezifischen Volumina von Oligomeren desm.m′‐Ditolyls wurden in einem niedrigen Konzentrationsbereich in Toluol, Benzol und Trichloräthylen bei 25°C bestimmt. AbstractEs wird über den Einfluß verschiedener Umsetzungsprodukte des Tetramethyl‐1.3‐cyclobutandions mit Aminen auf die anionische Polymerisation von ε‐Caprolactam berichtet. Die unter Erhaltung des Vierrings entstehenden Monoimine beschleunigen schwach, die entsprechenden Diimine zeigen keine Wirkung. Durch Rinöffnung werden 2.2.4‐Trimethyl‐3‐ketovaleramide gebildet, von denen die N‐monosubstituierten trotz des Wasserstoffs am Stickstoff die anionische Lactampolymerisation sehr gut aktivieren, während dies bei den N‐disubstituierten nicht der Fall ist. AbstractThe kinetics of the reaction of bis‐(–)ephedrine copper(II) chelate with halogen containing compounds and carbon tetrachloride in benzene and/or cyclohexane solutions were studied. The course of chelate reaction with carbon tetrachloride is in agreement with the kinetic law for a pseudomonomolecular reaction, with the rate constant k′=8.60·10−5mole−1l. sec−1at 20°C. In solutions of carbon tetrachloride in benzene and/or cyclohexane there was an increase of the rate constant with decreasing carbon tetrachloride concentration in the first case, while a decrease was observed in the second case. The variation of the rate constant of chelate reaction with carbon tetrachloride in presence of benzene and/or cyclohexane was interpreted by assuming the chelate molecule conformation to be influenced by the solvent. It was found that halogen compounds react the more readily with the chelate the more halogen atoms are present in the molecule. It was shown by means of ESR spectroscopy that in the course of the reaction of the chelate with carbon tetrachloride a reduction of the central metal of the chelate takes place. The rate constant k″ of the reaction Cu2++ CCl4→ Cu1++ products has a value of 4.63·10−6mole−1l. sec

AbstractBis‐(–)ephedrine copper(II) chelate initiates styrene polymerization in the presence of halogen compounds. Among the halogen compounds examined, the highest rate of Polymerization was found in the system bis‐(–)ephedrine copper(II) chelate‐carbon tetrachloride. The polymerization rate for constant carbon tetrachloride concentration can be described by the equation Rp= k [chelate]nwith the exponent n = 0.26. For molar ratios of chelate over carbon tetrachloride equal to, or smaller than one, the rate of polymerization is practically independent of carbon tetrachloride concentration. In the case that [CCl4]<[Chelate] the dependence of the polymerization rate of the concentration of carbon tetrachloride can be expressed by the equation Rp= k[CCl4]nwhere n = 0.30. While bis‐(–)‐ephedrine copper(II) chelate acts as a retarder in styrene polymerization initiated with 2.2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile, it has a rate increasing effect in the dibenzoylperoxide initiated polymerization. AbstractPolymerization of styrene is initiated by bis‐(–)ephedrine copper(II) chelate in presence of halopolymers and telomers containing terminal halogen atoms. The rate of polymerization at constant concentration of the chelate depends on the specific halopolymer used and its concentrationi.e.on the concentration of halogen atoms in the polymerization system. It is suggested that initiation results from interaction of the chelate with the halogen atoms of the halopolymer leading to formation of reactive centres at the halopolymer. AbstractNach einem Überblick über bisherige Arbeiten über den Mechanismus des sauer katalysierten Abbaus von Polyoxymethylendiolen wird der Abbau in 1‐proz. Lösung in Nitrobenzol bei 135°C unter dem Einfluß verschiedener Carbonsäuren untersucht. Phenylessigsäre verursacht keine nennenswerte Kettenspaltung, sondern katalysiert lediglich die Depolymerisation an den halbacetalischen Kettenenden.Die Depolymerisationsgeschwindigkeit ist etwa proportional der Säurekonzentration und umgekehrt proportional dem Polymerisationsgrad. Während des Abbaus ändert sich der durchschnittliche Polymerisationsgrad nicht wesentlich. Diese Befunde lassen sich mit keinem der diskutierten Reaktionsmechanismen widerspruchslos

AbstractA new mathematical procedure is proposed to take account, within the field of classical mechanics, of all rotational states, in order to calculate conformational averages on a free polymerr chain, subjected to neighbour interaction. The method is based on the FOURIER development of the statistical weight function, depending on two neighbouring torsion angles. Results are given for polymethylene at three different temperatures, and compared with those derived from the classical schemes based on the minimum energy states.The method seems to be particularly useful when the energy minima are flat and/or the energy barriers are low, compared to RT, due to the rapid convergence in the FOURIER development. It seems also useful in all cases wherein the conformational internal energy and the corresponding specific heat are to be evaluated.

AbstractThe fluorescence spectra of polystyrene solutions have been measured in various solvents. The ratio of the intensity IDof the excimer (short living excited dimer) band to the intensity IMof the monomer band depends on the solvent. The values extrapolated to diluted solutions may be related to the average density of segments in a polymer molecule. Above concentrations of 0.1 g/100 ml, the ratio ID/IMincreases with increasing concentration, and the peak position of the excimer band shifts to a longer wavelength.

AbstractMonte‐Carlo‐Methoden wurden benutzt, um mit Hilfe einer Rechenmaschine Zufallsketten zu erzeugen, die als Vorlage für reale Makromoleküle dienen können. Dabei wurden zwei gitterfreie Modelle, bei denen entweder Valenz‐ und Rotationswinkel (A) oder die Rotationswinkel allein (B) frei wählbar waren, verwendet; die Wirkung des „ausgeschlossnen Volumens”︁ wurde berücksichtigt.
