AbstractMathematical procedures are given in order to correlate the conformational parameters of the structural unit with the geometrical parameters of a polymer chain. The expressions are developed for chains withtc, s2ortisymmetries and apply to a structural unit with an unlimited number of chain atoms.

AbstractSTAUDINGER‐Indices [η] und Trägheitsradien einer Polyisobutylen‐Probe wurden in insgesamt 21 Theta‐Gemischen und 13 reinen Lösungsmitteln bei 25°C bestimmt. Außerdem wurde die Temperaturabhängigkeit der Theta‐Dimensionen in drei Theta‐Gemischen bei je drei Temperaturen ermittelt. Die Ergebnisse deuten auf einen wesentlichen Einfluß der Eigenassoziation der als Fällungsmittel verwendeten Alkohole auf die Vergrößerung der Solvathülle und damit auf die Theta‐Dimensionen. Die Abhängigkeit der STAUDINGER‐Indices [η]Θvon der Differenz der berechneten und der gemessenen Dielektrizitätskonstanten der Theta‐Gemische läßt zwei Grenzdimensionen erkennen. Die untere dieser Dimensionen entspricht der für Benzol als Theta‐Lösungsmittel bei 24°C gefundenen. Diese untere Grenzdimension kann auch aus einem [η]L= f([η]L‐[η]Θ)‐Diagramm erhalten werden, wenn bei jeweils konstantem Fällungsmittel die STAUDINGER‐Indices von Theta‐Gemischen mit ähnlichen Lösungsmitteln, [η]Θ, sowie die STAUDINGER‐

AbstractThe molecular conformations in the crystal state of isotacticracemicpoly(sec‐butyl) vinyl ether, poly‐S‐(sec‐butyl) vinyl ether, and poly‐i‐propyl vinyl ether have been investigated by comparison of the X‐ray diffraction intensities in the fiber spectra with the calculated intensity due to an isolated macromolecule. The chain conformation is the same in all cases; it is characterized by a helix with 17 monomeric units in 5 pitches, with a chain repeat of 35.5 Å. While the molecular conformation of poly‐i‐propyl vinyl ether has been fairly well defined, the corresponding conformations of the poly‐(sec‐butyl)‐vinyl ethers have been found to be essentially analogous, apart from the exact location of the extra methyl group that the latter polymers possess with respect to poly‐i‐propyl vinyl ether. AbstractMeasurements of intrinsic viscosity on polystyrene fractions in cyclohexane, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), and MEK‐cyclohexane, MEK‐methanol mixture at 34°C., measurements of intrinsic viscosity and of second virial coefficient on polymethyl methacrylate fractions in MEK at 25°C. are reported.The experimental results allow to point out that in non Θ‐solvents the expansion coefficient α is equal to one also for relatively high molecular weights. AbstractDie stereospezifische Polymerisation von Butadien mit einem Katalysatorsystem aus einer Kobalt‐ und einer aluminiumorganischen Verbindung zu 1,4‐cis‐Polybutadien verläuft in Lösung in homogener Phase. Dabei überlagern sich Kettenwachstum und ‐übertragung mit einer Desaktivierung des Katalysators. Die Zahl der aktiven Katalysatorzentren ist gegen Ende der Polymerisation sehr gering.Das mittlere Molekulargewicht des Polybutadiens läßt sich nach beendigter Polymerisation durch Zugabe von Cokatalysatoren ‐ wie z. B. Alkyl‐ oder Säurehalogeniden oder bestimmter wasserstoffaktiver Verbindungen – definiert und reproduzierbar erhöhen. Ein Kationischer Mechanismus dieser Reaktion wird belegt u.a. durch Versuche unter Verwendung von [14‐C]‐tert.‐Butylchlorid als Cokatalysator. AbstractThe theory of SMITH and EWART, which describes the formation of latex particles in the emulsion polymerization system, is extended by deriving equations for the rate of change of micellar and latex particle numbers. In one case given, these equations can be integrated in closed form, but in most cases, the solutions must be found by numerical computation. The overall aim is to derive an expression for the number of reaction loci which is in terms of variables easily specified by experimental conditions – such as emulsifier and initiator content, and which predicts the number of reacting particles to be one half the total number of particles at the time when particle production ceases.
