B. tertiären A

AbstractThe polymerization of acrylamide, initiated by acidic permanganate/thiourea redox system, was studied in aqueous media at 30 ± 0,2 °C in nitrogen. The rate of polymerization (Rp) was found to be proportional to nearly the first power of the catalyst (KMnO4) concentration, within the range of 0,5 · 10−2to 1,4 · 10−2mol dm−3, and independent of the thiourea concentration. However, the rate of polymerization varies with the first power of the hydrochloric acid concentration within the range of 2,85 · 10−2to 11,4 · 10−2mol dm−3, and increases linearly up to certain extent by varying the monomer concentration from 2,5 · 10−2to 12,5 · 10−2mol dm−3. A deviation from the linear behaviour is observed, however, above a concentration of 12,5 · 10−2mol dm−3.The initial rate of polymerization (Ri) as well as the maximum conversion increases by increasing the temperature up to 35 °C, but the maximum conversion falls as the temperature rises above 35 °C. The overall energy of activation is found to be 47,70 kJ mol−1(11,48 kcal/mol−1) within the temperature range of 25–45 °C. Addition of salts, except manganous salts, was found to be associated with a depression in theRpand maximum conversion. The effect of cationic and anionic surfactants has been found to increase and decrease theRprespectively; non‐ionic det

AbstractWhen solutions of a polymer with a molecular weight distribution (MWD) having a great variety of the average molecular weights are precipitationally fractionated, the effect of the average molecular weight on the phase separation features can be discussed by means of a hypothetical calculation technique. The FLORY‐HUGGINS‐FUJISHIRO theory was employed as a basic tenet for the simulation. The partition coefficient, σ, as well as the volume ratio of the polymer‐lean phase to the polymer‐rich phase,R, decrease with an increase in the average molecular weight of the original polymer under the same operating conditions, including initial concentration, vpo, the concentration dependence of the polymer/solvent interaction parameter,p, and the amount of fraction,p. The standard deviation of the fraction, σ', (Eq. (3)), for a givenpreveals a maximum at a specificvpo. In the cases where the original polymers differ in the average molecular weight, but have the same X̄w/X̄nand where the original polymers have the same σ', the fractionation efficiency, defined by\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ (\overline X _w /\overline X _n )/(\overline X _w^0 /\overline X _n^0 ) $\end{document}, is lowered with a decrease in the average molecular weight (suffix zero means the original polymer),i.e., the molecular weight distribution of the fractions, obtained under the same operating conditions, becomes broader. The average molecular weight of the original polymer affects insignificantly the characteristics, but the accuracy of estimating the MWD of the original polymer beco

AbstractAn attempt has been made to confirm the validity of conclusions deduced in the previous papers in which a single sample with a specific molecular weight distribution, was mathematically fractionated. Polymers with a SCHULZ‐ZIMM distribution and WESSLAU distribution (ratio of the weight‐ to number‐average degree of polymerization, X̄w/X̄n= 1,05–5) were brought into a solution, which was cooled to cause precipitation according to the simulative procedure of KAMIDE and SUGAMIYA. The molecular weight distribution (MWD) of the fractions is approximately symmetrical and can be expressed by the normal distribution function, irrespective of the MWD of the original polymer. If the MWD of the original polymer is highly skew in the lower molecular weight region, the fraction, separated from a comparatively concentrated solution at very smallp, yields a doubly‐peaked MWD (pis the amount of fraction expressed as weight ratio). As the width of the MWD of the original polymer increases, the MWD of the higher order fraction becomes narrower and X̄wof the fraction decreases rapidly in the fractionation process. The standard deviation, σ' for the polymer in the polymer‐rich phase is larger than that in the polymer‐lean phase, regardless of the type and breadth of the MWD of the original polymer, and the order of fractionation, provided that the fraction size is small. When the initial concentration is not exceedingly low, the KAMIDE method is by far preferable to the SCHULZ method for estimating accurately the MWD of the original polymer from the fractionation data. In a given fractionation run the log‐log plot of polymer concentration in a precipitatevs.X̄wcan be approximate

AbstractOperating conditions, such as initial concentration, vpo, fraction size,p, in successive precipitational fractionation (SPE), based on solubility, are studied on various polymers having SCHULZ‐ZIMM and WESSLAU distributions, the ratio of weight‐ to number‐average degree of polymerizations, X̄w/X̄n, ranging from 1,1 to 5. Thevpodependence of X̄w/X̄nin the fraction is larger, for the fractions having smallerpand for the fractions which are separated from a broader whole polymer. Aspincreases, X̄w/X̄nof the polymer remaining in the polymer‐rich phase decreases, passing through a minimum at a specific value ofp, pmin, then increases, irrespective ofvpo, the type, and breadth of the molecular weight distribution (MWD) of the original polymer. For SCHULZ‐ZIMM type polymers, the standard deviation, σ', of MWD in the polymers in both phases behaves just like X̄w/X̄nwith an increase inp. For the WESSLAU type polymers, on the other hand σ' decreases monotonically with increasingp.By SPF it is theoretically impossible for WESSLAU type polymers that the fractions have a smaller σ' compared to that of the original polymer. The X̄w/X̄nof the polymer in a polymerlean phase, separated from a 1,0% solution of a polymer with the WESSLAU distribution (X̄w/X̄n= 5, X̄w= 300) under the conditions ofp= 99/100, is extremely small. The fractionation of polymers with large X̄win a solvent exhibiting a negative concentration dependence of χ is equivalent with that from a
