Die relative Übertragungskonstante am Polystyrol wurde früher durch reaktionskinetische Messungen zu Cpol= 1,9·10−4bei 60°C bestimmt. Die Kenntnis dieser Größe ermöglicht es, durch thermische Polymerisation bis zu verschieden hohen Umsätzen unverzweigte Polymerisate und solche bestimmter Verzweigungsdichte (ohne Zusatz einer vernetzenden Verbindung wie Divinylbenzol) herzustellen. An Fraktionen dieser Polymerisate wird durch Sedimentations‐ und Diffusionsmessungen das Molekulargewicht und die [η]0‐M‐Beziehung unverzweigter Polystyrole und sodann [η]/[η]0für die definiert verzweigten Fraktionen bestimmt.Aus der Anzahl der Verzweigungen pro Makromolekül m wird g nach einer früher von ZIMMund STOCKMAYERaufgestellten Beziehung berechnet. AbstractPolymerization of vinyl compounds can be induced when a metal alkyl is mixed with a suitable halide in the presence of vinyl monomers. On the contrary, the binary system prepared in the absence of the monomer has a much lower catalytic activity. The cocatalytic activity of metal halides depends largely on the nature of its partner metal alkyl, although halogen compounds of metals with the electronegativity ranging form 1.5 to 2.0 are generally effective. Results of copolymerization experiments showed that most of the vinyl polymerizations by metal alkyl‐metal halide systems proceed according to a radical mechanism. Polymerization of glycol dimethacrylate by these catalysts resulted in gelified polymers which showed electron paramagnetic resonance absorption signals. AbstractPolyvinylacetat wurde in Borsäuretrimethylester‐Lösung der Einwirkung von Co‐60‐γ Strahlen, 120 kV‐Röntgenbremsstrahlung und thermischen Neutronen bei verschiedenen Dosisleistungen ausgesetzt. Die beobachteten Effekte sind jeweils unabhängig von der Dosislcistung, hängen aber stark von der LETLET = linear energy transfer.der Strahlung ab: γ‐ und Röntgenstrahlen bewirken rasche Vernetzung; die dicht ionisierenden4He/7Li‐Strahlungen aus der exothermen Kernreaktion10B + n →4He +7Li rufen jedoch einen Abbau des Polymeren hervor. Proben, die durch γ‐Bestrahlung bis über den Gelpunkt verfestigt wurden, wurden durch nachfolgende4He/7Li‐Strahlung wieder verflüssigt. Diese Versuche zeigen, daß das Verhältnis p0/q0(p0, q0: spezif. Abbau‐ und Vernetzungsdichte) mit steigender LET zunimmt.Mehrere Mechanismen werden diskutiert, die prinzipiell zur Deutung von LET‐Effekten in Polymeren herangezogen werden können. Zwei „klassische”︁ Deutungen auf Grund der verschiedenen Anfangskonzentration intermediärer Radiolyseprodukte in den Bahnen ionisierender Teilchen werden gegeben: Die Verringerung von q0durch Unterdrückung von Übertragungsreaktionen zwischen Lösungsmittel‐Radikalen und intakten Makromolekeln zugunsten von Radikal‐Radikal‐Reaktionen bei hoher LET, sowie die Erhöhung von p0durch Unterbindung primärer Käfig‐Rekombinationen zwischen endständigen Makroradikalen durch Lösungsmittel‐Radikale bei hoher LET. Als neue Deutung wird die vielfache Ionisation und Anregung von Molekeln durch Teilchen hoher LET diskutiert: Die Dissoziation mehrfach ionisierter Makromolekeln vermag zu einem völlig veränderten Verhältnis von p0/q0zu führen; ferner kann die Einführung mehrerer Radikalstellen in ein Makromolekül

AbstractFür Polyesterharze aus reinem Fumarsäurepolyester und verschiedenen Mengen Styrol wurde nach der Copolymerisation der Umsatz an beiden Monomeren experimentell bestimmt. Aus dem gefundenen Umsatz wurde die Zusammensetzung der Copolymerketten mittels der integrierten Copolymerisationsgleichung berechnet. Als r‐Parameter wurden die von der linearen Copolymerisation von Fumarsäurediäthylester und Styrol bekannten Werte verwendet.Die experimentell erhaltenen Werte für die Zusammensetzung stimmten relativ gut mit den berechneten überein. Man kann daher den Schluß ziehen, daß die bekannten Reaktivitäten beider Monomeren durch Einbau der Fumarsäureeinheiten in Polyester und Copolymerisation mit Styrol zu hohem Umsatz nicht wesentlich verändert werden. Möglicherweise ist eine geringfügige Abweichung der Zusammensetzung in Richtung höheren Styrolgehaltes auf die allgemeine Diffusionskontrolle am Ende der Härtungsreaktio

AbstractThe infrared spectra of stereoregular polyn‐butyl,‐isobutyl,‐sec‐butyl, and ‐tert‐butyl acrylates has been examined in the range from 3500 to 700 cm−1. Poly(n‐butyl acrylate) prepared by an anionic catalyst was found to show only diffused rings in its X‐ray photograph taken at room temperature, but the infrared spectrum of the polymer differs clearly from that of the authentic amorphous polymer. The poly(acrylic acid) obtained by hydrolysis of then‐butyl acrylate polymer exhibited discrete DEBYE‐SCHERRER'S rings in its X‐ray photograph. With the aid of X‐ray analysis, these crystalline or stereoregular poly‐butyl acrylates has been found to be isotactic, whose polymer chains has a three‐fold screw‐axis in the crystalline state. The infrared spectrum of the stereoregular poly‐n‐butyl acrylate has been found to contains no crystallization sensitive bands, which are ascribed to intermolecular interactions, as expected from the above results. AbstractThe infrared spectra of amorphous and crystalline polypropyl thiolacrylates and of amorphous polyethyl thiolacrylate were examined in the range from 3500 to 700 cm−1.A polymorphism was observed in the crystalline poly‐n‐propyl thiolacrylate. A film prepared by drying a cloroform solution of the polymer under air was transparent (Type 2), whereas, a film dried in the current of cloroform vapour was resinous and opaque (Type 1). Type 2 structure was unstable, and it turned into Type 1 structure by stretching in a stream of hot air. Type 1 polymer chains occurred as helices with three monomer units per turn. Type 2 polymer showed non three‐fold screw helices. The infrared spectrum of Type 1 polymer was different from that of Type 2 polymer in many absorption bands, viz., the methylene twisting bands in the vicinity of 1200 cm−1, the CC stretching bands near 1130 cm−1, the asymmetrical CSC stretching and methyl rocking bands in the vicinity of 960 cm−1and the symmetrical CSC stretching bands near 730 cm−1. AbstractThe infrared spectra of amorphous and crystalline poly‐n‐butyl, polyisobutyl and poly‐sec‐butyl thiolacrylates has been examined in the range from 3500 to 700 cm−1. By X‐ray analysis, the crystalline polyisobutyl and poly‐sec‐butyl thiolacrylates were found to have isotactic and helical structures. The steric structure of the crystalline poly‐n‐butyl thiolacrylate could not be determined because it is difficult to get fully oriented specimens for X‐ray measurements, but from the infrared spectrum the polymer chain is presumably considered to have a helical structure too.It was found that the band shapes of the asymmetrical skeletal CSC stretching modes in the crystalline poly‐n‐butyl thiolacrylate were similar to those in the crystalline polyisobutyl, poly‐sec‐butyl, polyisopropyl and poly‐n‐propyl (Type 2) thiolacrylates, but were different from the shapes in the crystalline
