AbstractUnsaturated fatty compounds such as oleic acid, which are of interest as renewable raw materials, can be functionalized at the C,C‐double bond by Lewis acid induced addition reactions. The products are branched and highly functionalized fatty compounds which may have interesting properties. SnCl4‐induced additions of nitriles to methyl oleate and ethyl 10‐undecenoate give the corresponding esters of the N‐acylamino fatty acids. AbstractTwo new preparation techniques forBrassicaseeds are introduced, which enable the determination of total sulphur concentrations and indirectly the total glucosinolate concentrations in small sample sizes and single seeds by means of X‐ray fluorescence spectroscopy. Small sample sizes, down to 250 mg, are milled in peppermill type grinders and prepared as thin layers in liquid cuvettes. Single seeds are embedded by means of a sulphur free glue based on acetylated glucose in wax tablets and cut into halves. Measurement and calibration for small sample sizes are in accordance with the rules for the original X‐RF method. In case of single seeds the area of the cut surface need to be estimated and the collected S‐Kα intensities corrected for the active fluorescent area of the standard reference mat

AbstractPetroselinsäure wurde in 2‐Iodpetroselinsäuremethylester (13)übergeführt und mit Tributylzinnhydrid zutrans‐ undcis‐2‐Dodecyl‐1‐cyclopentancarbonsäuremethylester (14) umgesetzt. Die Atomtransfermethode mit Hexabutyldizinn führt zu bicyclischen γ‐Lactonen16undtrans‐2‐(1′‐Iodododecyl)‐1‐cyclopentancarbonsäuremethylestern17. AbstractThis note describes experiments and results obtained using X‐ray powder diffraction, Differential Scanning Calorimetry and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance techniques to study the polymorphic condition of cocoa butter in samples of chocolate which have been carefully stored for long periods of time. The results show that bloom formation is accompanied by the presence of a different polymorphic form (VI) to the bloom‐free case (form V). Also evident is an enhanced resistance to polymorphic transition at a reduced temperature of storage, 18°C, or the addition of a small amount of butter fat to the chocolate. AbstractThe synthesis of long chain 6‐oxo and 7‐oxo aliphatic acids is undertaken in connection with one of the industrial process developments at our laboratory. Derivatisation of these long chain oxo acids and further chemical modification led to potential oil field chemicals like anti‐corrosives, bactericides, scale inhibitors etc. In this paper, the mass spectra of a series of oxo acids from undecanoic acid to tetracosanoic acid are reported. These oxo acids show characteristic fragmentation patterns. In the total series of oxo acids from undecanoic acid to tetracosanoic acid investigated by us, a McLafferty rearrangement is not only observed with the involvement of the oxo group, but also preferentially it is the alkyl chain‐side hydrogen on the γ‐carbon atom that is involved in the rearrangement in all the cases. AbstractBei der herkömmlichen Entölung von Rohlecithin durch Extraktion mit Aceton ist die vollständige Entfernung des Extraktionsmittels aus dem Lecithin mit großem Aufwand verbunden. Außerdem werden bei Verwendung von Aceton Reaktionsprodukte gebildet, die die organoleptische Qualität des erzeugten Lecithins negativ beeinflussen. Die Entölung des Rohlecithins mit Propan besitzt diese Nachteile nicht. Die für die Handhabung des bei Normaldruck gasförmigen Extraktionsmittels notwendigen Drücke (etwa 40 bar) sind um eine Größenordnung geringer als bei der überkritischen Gasextraktion mit Kohlendioxid. Das entwickelte neue Verfahren wird deshalb als LPGE‐Verfahren (Low Pressure Gas Extraction) bezeichnet. Die dem Verfahren zugrunde liegenden Phasengleichgewichte im System Lecithin/ Sojaöl/Propan werden erörtert. AbstractThe European Analytical Subgroup of the International Lecithin and Phospholipid Society (I.L.P.S.) is working around two main items: the standardisation of the analytical methods used in common lecithin and phospholipid trade and the quantitative analysis of the phospholipid content of lecithin products and purified phospholipid mixtures. An overview is presented of the work of the group around these items, including a list of recommended methods for routine lecithin analysis and the creation of calibration standards for quantitative phospholipid determination.
