AbstractThe reliable interpretation of mass spectra for the determination of molecular constitutions requires systematic studies on the fragmentation behavior of classes of compounds, since the large number of kinetic and energy parameters that determine the decomposition of excited polyatomic ions makesab‐initiopredictions of spectra almost impossible. In this progress report, a number of general rules for the decomposition of organometallic complexes upon electron impact are discussed; a classification into decomposition types is also presented, and is illustrated by selected example

AbstractIn the few short years since the discovery that organoboranes undergo facile free‐radical substitution, application of these reactions has become a major new area of synthetic utility. Organoboranes undergo a wide variety of free‐radical reactions such as autoxidation to the alcohol or hydroperoxide, 1, 4 addition to α,β‐unsaturated derivatives, addition to disulfides, and oxygen‐induced radical coupling. AbstractFor thermodynamic reasons, biological hydroxylations cannot usually proceed according to the β‐oxidation scheme, but are possible only with the aid of molecular oxygen by a route requiring a large amount of energy. The corresponding enzymes, known as “mixed function oxygenases” or more appropriately “monooxygenases”, require two reduction equivalents for the activation of oxygen.
