摘要:
The Kubo‐Mori modified theory of Brownian motion is applied to the longitudinal oscillation problem. It is found that the dispersion and friction determined by this theory are equivalent to ordinary plasma dispersion.

A method for finding the roots of the equationD = Oin a multicomponent plasma with positive and negative ion species is given. The use of dispersion diagrams (&ohgr;‐kdiagrams) for right‐ and left‐circularly polarized waves is made to locate these roots in pass or stop bands.

Resonant wave‐wave coupling of a wave‐triplet and its satellites are considered. The results show that by including the satellite waves the dynamic behavior of the coupled waves differs significantly from that of an isolated wave‐triplet in both the explosive and the decay instabilities.

A double‐humped ion velocity distribution function is produced in aQ‐machine cesium plasma. When the plasma becomes unstable, a growing wave amplitude and a characteristic change in the phase velocity of a grid‐excited ion‐acoustic wave are observed.

The presence of flow frequency fields in a plasma substantially modifies the marginal stability condition for a counterstreaming ion‐ion instability and allows the system to be unstable even if the electron thermal energy is much smaller than the relative ion streaming energy.

It is shown that, despite processes that tend to elongate the astronE‐layer as it is built up by injecting successive pulses of electrons, in a good vacuum this tendency is overcome by the slow turn‐on of focusing forces that compress theElayer as it slowly neutralizes.
