Upper bounds are presented for ion or electron collection by a cylindrical electrostatic probe inclined at an angle to a uniform magnetic field. Over a wide range of conditions, these bounds are better than those derived earlier by Laframboise and Rubinstein.

摘要:
The fourth‐order differential equation describing an Alfve´n ion‐cyclotron wave propagating along a magnetic field of varying intensity is found. The equation is self‐adjoint and possesses nontrivial turning points.

摘要:
Experimental results which show that cyclotron harmonic waves have quasi‐cylindrical wave fronts around a point source antenna in a magnetoplasma, are used to demonstrate that these cyclotron waves produce the ’’fine structure,’’ of the resonance cone predicted theoretically for the upper branch.

The effect of a finite source on the warm plasma resonance cones in a bounded plasma is discussed. Graphs of the potential produced by a Gaussian gap source are presented for parameters which illustrate the individual resonance cones and their interference.
