摘要:
Steady‐state self‐modulation of a whistler wave propagating at an arbitrary angle to the applied magnetic field, in a typical tokamak plasma, is investigated. The envelope is found to be modulationally stable for the parameter regime chosen.

An unstable ion cyclotron loss cone mode propagating in the electron diamagnetic direction has been found. This mode may explain the observation on 2XIIB in the early and late phases of the discharge.

摘要:
For an extraordinary wave incident on the upper hybrid layer from within an inhomogeneous plasma, the efficiency for mode conversion into a Bernstein wave is derived. Complete mode conversion occurs only if the scale length of the density gradient is large compared with the free‐space wavelength.
