摘要:
The electric and magnetic fields associated with anomalous diffusion to the axis of a linear plasma discharge are used to compute representative ion trajectories. Substantial axial acceleration of the ions is demonstrated.

Two simple expressions are derived which relate the maximum and mean turbulent diffusion tensor to the anomalous dissipation rate during parametric instabilities. The results apply to conditions in which saturation is due to resonance broadening.

摘要:
The orbits of a distribution of electrons, initially cold and uniformly distributed in space, driven by an exponentially growing electrostatic wave, have been followed numerically. It is found that the average field at trapping is characterized by&ohgr;B/&ohgr; ≈ &pgr;/4 (&ohgr;B2 = ekE/m)for growth rates&lgr;/&ohgr; ≤ 14.

Unstable waves(&ohgr; > &ohgr;ce)are observed to be localized in the axial gradient of a beam‐produced plasma. This results from an increase of phase velocity due to the gradient, which permits Landau damping by the beam.

Previous ion temperature measurements are interpreted in terms of the stochastic heating resulting from the finite correlation time&tgr;c ∼ 2&pgr;/&ohgr;)of the observed ion acoustic turbulence. The damping of the fluctuations appears to be provided largely by the ions.
