The eigenvalues of the test‐particle collision operator for Maxwell molecules are calculated. The results are used to analyze the spectral distribution of the van Hove self‐correlation function.

Diffusion coefficients for Ar‐Ne have been measured from 296 to 1363 °K. The data agree with other measurements and values derived from other properties. The data also agree with a corresponding‐states treatment but not with a correlation relation at high temperatures.

When a pulse disturbance is applied to a wire in a magnetized plasma, a receiving probe exhibits two ion‐acoustic disturbances, one depends only ond⊥, the cross‐field distance, and the other on the actual distance,(d‖2 + d⊥2)1/2,between the exciter and the receiver.

Electromagnetic instability of waves propagating transverse to the external magnetic field of an anisotropic high‐&bgr; plasma governed by generalized non‐Maxwellian distribution functions is discussed. The region of instability is much smaller compared with that for Maxwellian plasma.

An obliquely propagating Bernstein wave excited by a coaxial antenna is amplified by inverse Landau damping in a beam‐plasma system. The perpendicular components of the phase velocity are directed inward and/or outward from the beam region, corresponding to the backward and forward waves, respectively.

The azimuthal current and magnetic flux in an axisymmetric torus or mirror are related to the (anisotropic) plasma pressure. Measurements by a Rogowski loop and a flux loop can be used to determine the spatially averaged components of pressure along and across the magnetic field.
