摘要:
The stability theory of Lyapunov is used to investigate the linear stability of Bernstein–Greene–Kruskal equilibria in the cold plasma limit. A suitable Lyapunov functional is found for the case of a high‐frequency limit, i.e., for unperturbed ions, implying stability.

摘要:
Nonlinear behavior of ion‐acoustic waves propagating along a highly nonisothermal magnetized plasma filled cylindrical waveguide is investigated. A Korteweg–de Vries equation is derived to describe the weakly nonlinear behavior of the waves. The effects of a finite boundary on the propagation of ion‐acoustic solitons are analyzed.

摘要:
The magnetic field reconnection is considered in a plasma induced by perturbing the boundaries of a slab of incompressible plasma with a magnetic neutral surface inside. It is assumed that the boundaries of the plasma slab are perturbed at both fast and slow rates compared with the hydromagnetic evolution rate, and the ensuing adjustments in the plasma and the magnetic field threading through it are investigated.

摘要:
It is shown that the sufficient conditions for stability established by Fung [Phys. Fluids29, 368 (1986)] for the stratified vortex flows with velocity and density distribution varying in both the radial and axial directions can never be satisfied except for a trivial case, i.e., the solid body rotation. However, an estimate of the growth rate can still be made based on the technique developed by Fung.
