摘要:
Underdense foam targets were irradiated with a single UV laser beam at intensities up to 1015W/cm2. The incident laser propagated into the foam a distance of 500–1000 &mgr;m, depending on the average target density. The backscattered Brillouin and 3&ohgr;0/2 radiation were observed to have the same dependence on the incident laser intensity, indicating a strong interrelation of these processes. A possible coupling mechanism is proposed.

摘要:
Planar targets of differentZwere irradiated with 0.53 &mgr;m laser light at intensities ≤5×1013W/cm2. The target rear surface was observed to be first heated by the laser‐generated shock wave. This was followed by a strong second heating which was attributed to radiation transport through the decompressed target. This additional heating might also be responsible for enhancing early laser transmission through thick targets.

摘要:
The Hamiltonian equations for the trajectories of fluid particles in axisymmetric vortex flows are obtained. On the basis of these equations, the system of thin vortex rings is considered. The problem of the interaction of two vortex rings has a general analytic solution. The problems of stochastization of the system of three and more vortex rings as well as stochastization of trajectories of fluid particles in the system of two and more vortex rings (with appropriate initial conditions) are discussed.

摘要:
New simple self‐similar solutions for the unsteady expansion of a gas into a vacuum are found. They describe supersonic rarefaction in cylindrical and spherical symmetry for an arbitrary adiabatic index. An inner boundary exists at a constant self‐similar coordinate. In the asymptotic region a universal isothermal density law is given which depends only on geometry. Important applications lie in the field of laser‐generated plasmas.

摘要:
Localized double vortices associated with the flute modes are shown to exist. Special emphasis is given to the effect of the convective variation of the fluid magnetic moment. It is shown that the latter effect considerably modifies the existence regions of the vortices.
