摘要:
Electric power companies are looking for ways and means to overcome the problems caused by the rapid increase of construction costs of a new power plant. One of the current alternatives is to share a generating plant among two or more utilities. In the paper, a probabilistic model of a jointly owned generating unit is developed. The model is utilised to investigate the effects of joint ownership of generation on the reliability as well as on the production costs of two interconnected systems. The segmentation method is used in the numerical evaluation.

摘要:
An efficient pole-assignment method for designing power-system stabilisers in multimachine systems is proposed. The method fully exploits the structure of linearised power-system equations and, as a result, the amount of computations required is reduced considerably. The effectiveness of the method is demonstrated using a numerical example.

摘要:
The paper defines a new term called ‘frequency factor’ and develops a method which utilises this factor to detect change in fundamental components of power-system frequency. A straight-line fit algorithm then optimally computes the average frequency deviation and average rate of change of frequency from the oscillatory response of any generator busbar caused by a sudden imbalance in generation and load demand in the system and predicts the amount of load to be shed. Results of computer simulation with a sample power system were also given in the paper.

摘要:
Following an initial feasibility investigation and then detailed planning and design studies, a 650 km transmission interconnection in Western Australia came into service in the latter part of 1984. Since that time, there has been a rapid increase in load demand, and planning for the first reinforcement of the interconnection has now been completed. In view of the extended transmission distance involved, the crucial dependence on shunt compensation, and further loadgrowth projections, an extensive series of direct measurements has been undertaken for the purposes of examining as closely as possible the response of the system for a range of operating conditions. Measurements in the steady state include those of operating unbalance, voltage profiles, and harmonic distributions. Measurements related to transient modes include those of compensator energisation, shunt-capacitor switching, and controlled short-circuit faults. The paper seeks to report the main findings from these measurements and it includes selected test recordings from them. In one aspect, the tests make possible detailed assessments of the closeness with which computer-simulation methods can reproduce system operating conditions. To that end, comparisons are made in the paper between the results of live-system tests and those from computer simulation.

摘要:
The findings of recent research reported in the paper relate to some of the properties of reactive-power compensators based on saturated reactors when forced by external faults into momentary operating modes which have a high degree of unbalance between the separate phases. Pronounced unbalance impairs the effectiveness of harmonic cancellation measures internal to reactor systems. In fault operating periods, harmonics are much greater than those in all normal operation in the steady-state. Using a very detailed representation of the multilimb structures of the main-and auxiliary-core systems of saturated reactors in a z-plane electromagnetic transient formulation, harmonic levels are evaluated in the paper for a range of fault operating conditions. The principal factors on which harmonic levels most directly depend are examined including those of fault level, fault type, fault location and the prefault loading conditions in saturated reactors. Comparisons between recordings from livesystem tests and solutions from computer simulation verify the closeness with which the analysis and evaluation facilities used can reproduce system-fault operating conditions. From the basis which harmonic evaluations can provide, the transient loading of harmonic filters in fault operating periods is investigated together with the requirements for protection to which this leads. A study is developed of the co-ordination of filter protection with other protection functions in a complete system which includes reactive-power compensators based on saturated reactors.

摘要:
Newly designed optical measuring systems developed for the measurement of highfrequency currents and voltages at high-potential points are introduced. These systems are applied to the measurement of surge voltages and currents at reactor switching and proved to be very helpful in perceiving high-frequency phenomena in highvoltage systems. As another application of these systems, an application to the measurement of disconnecting-switch restriking surge is also introduced in the paper.
