Thirty-nine patients with metastatic breast cancer were treated with 3M as first line chemotherapy, the combination of mitomycin-C (7 mg/ m2, day 1) mitoxantrone (7mg/m2, day 1 + 22), and methotrexate (30 mg/m2, day 1+22) in intervals of six weeks. The overall response rate (CR + PR) was 50%; 26% of the patients achieved remission already after the first cycle. Toxicity was remarkably low. Severe alopecia occurred in only 8% of the patients. There was only mild nausea. Significant leukopenia was observed in 4%.

Bone metastases present a frequent problem in oncology. Although fractionated irradiation with 10–15 (20) fractions is the best mode of radiotherapy, low-dose short-term irradiation schedules are of interest as they will reduce inconveniences like transportation problems. In two consecutive prospective follow-up studies patients with painful non-vertebral bone metastases were irradiated with a single shot (4 Gy) treatment or four fractions with 4 Gy. Extragonadal germ cell tumor versus hepatocellular carcinoma must be distinguished in case of diffuse metastatic liver disease and highly elevated alpha-fetoprotein serum levels. The differential diagnosis is difficult, and conventional histological staining methods usually yield no results. However, liver puncture and immuncytology are new and reliable means for differentiation. The antibody HE A 125 reacts with all epithelial tumors including germ cell tumors, but shows no reactivity with normal or malignant hepatocytes. The practical value of this method is exemplified by the case of a 20-year-old patient with diffuse metastatic liver occupation by an extragonadal germ cell tumor.

Tumoren, insbesondere Lymphome, aber auch Bronchialkarzinome und Kopf- und Halstumoren sind häufig mit einer Tuberkulose vergesellschaftet. Die Diagnose einer Tuberkulose wird in diesen Fallen oftmals erst relativ spat gestellt. Es wird über einen 37jährigen Patienten mit einer atypischen Röntgenmorphologie eines kleinzelligen Bronchialkarzinoms unter Chemotherapie berichtet, bei dem im Verlauf eine Tuberkulose diagnostiziert werden konnte. Die Prognose eines Bronchialkarzinoms wird durch die Tuberkulose nicht beeinflußt. Sowohl Tumor als auch Tuberkulose zeigen einen voneinander unabhängigen klinischen Verlauf und die Tuberkulose stellt keine Kontraindikation dar zur Durchführung einer Strahlen- bzw. Chemoth
