摘要:
The total amount and the relative proportions of labeled phospholipids were studied in chorioallantoic membrane cells (CAM), chick embryo cells (CEC) and L cells which were either infected with Newcastle disease virus (NDV), fowl plague virus (FPV) and mouse encephalomyocarditis (EMC) virus or treated with cycloheximide. In productively infected or nonproductively infected cells, the total amount of labeled phospholipids was not altered, but the relative proportions of individual phospholipids were modified. These modifications were related to the presence of viral proteins. Blocking of protein synthesis for 6 h with 7 µg cycloheximide/ml did not modify the total amount of labeled phospholipids in CAM and CEC. Less label was incorporated into cycloheximide-treated L cells than in controls. The relative proportions of the labeled individual phospholipids were modified in all three cell types and these modifications were different from those in virus-infected cells

摘要:
Phosphonoacetic acid (PAA) was found to inhibit in vitro varicella-zoster virus (VZV) replication. At 100 µg/ml, PAA blocked the development and spread of VZV cytopathology in both growing and contact-inhibited cultures. Formation of virus plaques by infected cells and cell-free virus was effectively blocked at concentrations as low as 25 µg/ml. The development of nuclear and cytoplasmic virus antigens was also inhibited by PAA. Inhibition by PAA suggests that VZV DNA replication, like that of other herpes-viruses, involves a virus-specific DNA polymeras

摘要:
Infection of CER cell cultures with field strains of rabies virus, ranging from 0 to 5 mouse brain passages, was detected by immunofluorescence within 2–4 days after infection. A fluorescent focus assay for measuring infectivity of seven rabies serogroup viruses was rapid and reproducible. Rabies field strains and other rabies serogroup viruses also induced cytopathic effect, usually on initial passage. The hemadsorption-negative (HAD–) plaque test in BSC-1 cells was successfully applied to laboratory-adapted rabies strains. HAD– test attempts were unsuccessful with CER cells and with field isolates of rabies virus in both cell lines. CER cells are heteroploid and are antigenically related to BHK-21 cells by fluorescent antibody

摘要:
This study is concerned with the effect of virus infection on the energy balance of the cell and the possible involvement of mitochondria in virus replication. The process of rubella virus adsorption and penetration is immediately associated with a stimulation of O2 uptake. Shortly afterwards, ATP levels decline, possibly because of increased ATP utilization. Virus infection appears to protect mitochondria against the uncoupling effect of dinitrophenol.

摘要:
An indirect solid phase radioimmunoassay using rabbit antibodies to the synthetic double-stranded RNA poly rl·rC and 125I-labelled sheep anti-rabbit IgG could detect 1 ng of poly rl·rC. This assay could also detect the presence of double-stranded RNA in Semliki Forest virus-infected chick fibroblasts and can be used as an assay for interferon activit

摘要:
A solid-phase radioimmunoassay has been developed for detecting polyhedron protein of Wiseana spp. nuclear polyhedrosis virus (W.NPV) using antigen fixed to plastic microtiter wells. The direct assay using 125I-labeled rabbit immunoglobulins could detect 0.2 µg of polyhedron protein, and the indirect method using 125I-labeled sheep anti-rabbit immunoglobulins could detect 0.05 µg of polyhedron protein. Antibodies against W.NPV polyhedron protein could be detected using a competition assay with labeled and unlabeled antibodies, providing a method suitable for rapid and quantitative screening of ser

摘要:
Tryptic peptide patterns identified Sendai virus polypeptides HN, P, F0, NP, and M as unique gene products, and confirmed the precursor-product relationship of polypeptides F0 and F. By the same criterion, the major nucleocapsid polypeptides, P and NP, in virions were derived from the same genes as their counterparts in nucleocapsids obtained from infected cells.
