A patient carrying hepatitis B antigen with both d and y specificities on the same particles (diplotypic HB Ag) has been followed over a period of two years, with examination of repeated blood samples.Titration studies on these sera consistently showed a stronger reaction and higher titer of specificities a and w, as compared with specificities d and y. These relationships differed from those seen in sera containing HB Ag of the usual ‘simple’ kind, whether of subtype D or subtype Y, in which the reactions of a and d, or a and y, paralleled each other closely. It is hypothesized that the most likely explanation for the appearance of this diplotypic HB Ag is a double infection with hepatitis B viruses of subtypes D and Y, resulting in a combination of the adw and ayw genomes, and the formation of a new viral genome possessing genes for both the d and the y specificit

摘要:
Neutralization of poliovirus type 1 and other enteroviruses was found to proceed more efficaciously when virus and antibody were in salt-free diluents. When the concentration of NaCl was 400 parts per million (ppm) or less, neutralization was enhanced as much as 700-fold over corresponding samples in isotonic salt solutions. The enhancing effect was pH-dependent, with a wide optimal range between pH 4.5 and 7.0. The increased neutralizing activity in the absence of salts was achieved with purified IgG and not with purified IgM.

摘要:
A nucleotide phosphohydrolase(NTPase) and a nuclease activity associated with cytoplasmic polyhedrosis virus (CPV) of Bombyx mori is described. The NTPase activity and the nuclease activity can be detected even after the physical integrity of the virus is disrupted, whereas the RNA polymerase activity could only be detected in intact virions. The nuclease was ATP-dependent and was found to be exonucleolytic.

The oncornaviruses isolated from continuous human cell lines and the Mason-Pfizer virus share a common group-specific antigen that is revealed in the immunodiffusion test. They have no common antigens with the mouse mammary tumor virus.

The association of labeled Semliki Forest virus (SFV) RNAs with cytoplasmic structures was studied by sucrose gradient centrifugation after treatment of the total cytoplasm with Triton X-100. Infected HeLa, CE and BHK cells were analyzed in low and high-salt buffers. Independently of the labeling period, about 20% of the viral 42S and 26S RNAs sedimented at 180–400S with newly formed virus-specific proteins and prelabeled ribosomes. Of this material, 70–95% was released by EDTA indicating that a major fraction of the RNA was associated with ribosomes. Four strains each of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2) were found to differ in their response to 2-deoxy-D-glucose. In the presence of 0.1% deoxyglucose, all 4 strains of HSV-1 synthesized a new major glycopeptide (C5’) with an apparent molecular weight significantly less than the corresponding major glycopeptide (C5) synthesized in the absence of the compound. On the other hand, with all 4 strains of HSV-2 the synthesis of the major C5 glycopeptide in the presence of deoxyglucose remained essentially unaltered. Sendai virus contains 8 structural polypeptides. The inter and intra-chain association of the polypeptides by disulfide bonds has been studied by the analysis of structural proteins in the presence and absence of reducing agents. The two high-molecular-weight polypeptides (1 and 2) are linked by disulfide bonds.
