摘要:
Polycation-stimulated mutants of fowl plague virus (FPV) have been studied. The mutants contain an altered neuraminidase as shown by a changed sensitivity of the enzyme to inhibition by δ-lactone-3-aza-2,3,4-trideoxy-4-oxy-d-arabinoactonic acid, by specific antisera, and by chromatographic analysis of disintegrated virus on DEAE-cellulose

摘要:
The clinical picture of a smallpox-like generalized infection in a gorilla which became sick on the 14th day fter its arrival at the Moscow Zoo is described. The causative agent of the disease was isolated and found to be a virus of the herpes group with properties resembling those of varicella-zoster virus. The evidence presented calls for a careful attitude toward reports on the pox nature of vesicular diseases in monkeys in cases which have not been confirmed virologically.

摘要:
The events during the release of measles virus from latently infected hamster cells after co-cultivation with BSC-1 cells were studied by immunofluorescence and electron microscopy techniques. Before co-cultivation, measles virus antigens (nucleocapsid) were distributed in an apparently random fashion throughout the cytoplasm. Six hours after co-cultivation with BSC-1 cells, the measles virus nucleocapsid became aggregated in close proximity to the nuclear membrane. These antigens then diffused towards the cell periphery, and progeny virus was observed budding from the cell surface by 16 h after co-cultivation. Fusion of the BSC-1 cells to the latently infected hamster cells was necessary for virus release to occur, and an intact, viable BSC-1 cell was also required. A possible mechanism for the block of virus replication in the latently infected cells is discussed.

摘要:
Disc PAGE, isoelectric focusing, and glycerol gradient centrifugation experiments were carried out to characterize thymidine (dT) kinase isozymes induced by herpesvirus of turkeys and infectious laryngotracheitis virus in the cytosol fraction of infected chick cells. The avian herpesvirus dT kinases differed from chick cytosol dT kinase in electrophoretic mobility, isoelectric point and phosphate donor specificity. The avian herpesvirus dT kinases resembled chick mitochondrial dT kinase in electrophoretic mobilityy and isoelectric point, but exhibited larger sedimentation coefficients. The avian herpesvirus enzymes closely resembled dT kinases induced by human herpes simplex viruses types 1 and 2.

摘要:
Temperature-sensitive mutants of vesicular stomatitis virus were examined for their ability to synthesize intracellular virus-specific RNA species at the nonpermissive temperature. Four mutants from complementation group I (ts 11, ts 12, ts 13, ts 114) were compared to two mutants from complementation group IV (ts 41, ts 44). Mutants within one group did not resemble each other in their phenotypes; nevertheless, two distinct pathways of RNA synthesis were detected: one for transcription and the other for replication.

摘要:
Three serologically active fragments were identified in tryptic digests of iodinated MuLV major group-specific antigen (p30). Two of these eluted in a single zone on Sephadex G-50 and agarose gels developed with guanidine·HCl with an apparent molecular weight of 11,500. Approximately one half of the radioactivity in this zone was precipitated with antiserum to a tryptic fragment (IEFP, mol. wt. 10,300) purified by isoelectric focusing. The remaining radioactivity was still precipitable by antisera to homologous and heterologous (FeLV) p30’s. A smaller fragment (mol. wt. 2,500) not found in IEFP was apparently derived from the material in this zone. Direct radioimmunoassays and inhibition tests established that species-specific and interspecific determinants were present on each fragment. The assay with the 125I-labeled small fragment was inhibited optimally with trypsinized p30 showing an increase of 130-fold in sensitivity compared to inhibition tests with intact p

摘要:
SV-S, a cloned small plaque mutant of Sindbis virus derived from persistently infected Aedes aegypti cell cultures, was shown also to be an RNA+ temperature-sensitive mutant. It interfered with the replication of SV-W at the nonpermissive temperature as well as the permissive temperature, but did not depress net viral RNA synthesis in cells coinfected with SV-W.

摘要:
A hitherto undescribed virus, Molinia streak virus (MS V), has been found in plants of Molinia coerulea (L.) Moench. It is readily sap-transmitted, but only to graminaceous plants, and has a thermal inactivation point of about 85°. Its particles are isometric, have a 28-nm diameter, sediment at 112S and contain about 22% RNA with a base composition of A 28.2, G 23.8, C 25.5, and U 22.5. The single species of protein in the virion has a molecular weight of 26,000 daltons. MSV is distantly related serologically to cocksfoot mild mosaic and phleum mottle viruses

摘要:
The particles of broad bean wilt virus and three of its strains aggregated in different ways in infected cells of Chenopodium amaranticolor, C.quinoa and Nicotiana clevelandii. Most aggregates were crystals, interlocking networks of partides and sheets of particles rolled into different tubular forms or lying between adjacent mitochondria. One strain induces the formation of tubules consisting of a membrane around a file of particles. These structures are discussed with regard to the current ideas on the relationships between the virus strains.

摘要:
A quantitative complement-fixation procedure was used to determine the immunologic relatedness of the 30,000 molecular weight internal protein of type-C viruses isolated from a woolly monkey and a gibbon ape. These proteins appear to be 96–98% sequence-related based on the relationship between cross-reactivity and primary sequence established for model proteins, especially by Wilson and co-workers. This degree of relationship has previously been found only for viruses isolated from a single species. Along with molecular hybridization data suggesting a lack of relationship to cellular DNA of the supposed host species, these data suggest a common origin of the two primate viruses from a currently unknown sourc
