摘要:
Complexes containing 70S RNA and RNA-directed DNA polymerase were detected in 74% of the human leukemic plasmas, whereas none was observed in normal plasmas. The DNA product synthesized by these complexes hybridized to the RNA of Rauscher leukemia virus and to RNA obtained from leukemic cells and did not hybridize to the RNA of normal leukocytes or to theRNA of the unrelated avian myeloblastosis virus.

摘要:
Two nonvirus-producing subclones of the murine sarcoma virus-transformed rat nonproducer cell, K-NRK Cl 32, which have partially regained the property of contact inhibition of cell growth, have been isolated. Both subclones, unlike the trans formed and untransformed parental cell lines, K-NRK Cl 32 and NRK, are resistant to exogenous infection by type-C RNA tumor viruses from several species; this block can be overcome at high virus input multiplicity. Iododeoxyuridine induction of endogenous rat type-C virus proceeds normally in spite of the block to exogenous viral infection.

摘要:
Formation of foci of Rous cells by B-RSV (RAVI), in medium containing agarose and tryptose phosphate broth (TPB), is increased 2- to 10-fold (or more, in crowded cultures) by addition of sulfated polyanions (dextran sulfate [DS], heparin), at the post-infection stage, lowering the concentration of Ca++ and Mg++ in the medium, or raising to 41° the temperature of incubation. These nonspecific factors may all favor cell transformation by reducing cell adhesion. DS and high temperature also enhance focus formation by B-RSV (RAV2) but not by PR-RSV (C) or SR-RSV (D). Omission of TPB from the medium reduces 10- to 100-fold the number of foci produced by B-RSV and 5- to 10-fold that produced by PR-RSV or SR-RSV; and TPB is also required for enhancement by other nonspecific factors of focus formation by B-RSV. Hence, it must act differently from these factors

摘要:
The kinetics of formation of the Semliki Forest virus nucleocapsid were studied by following the incorporation of pulse-labeled capsid protein into the 140S particle. The process was rapid; within 5 min, the maximum level of label incorporation was reached. Using cycloheximide, the assembly was shown to be dependent on continuing protein synthesis. No pool of soluble capsid protein could bedetected.

When RSV-transformed rodent cells were infected with either HSV type 1 or 2, the cells were not killed, but continued to grow and divide for at least ten passages. The HSV genome was partially expressed in these cells. Thymidine kinase was elicited and its synthesis was controlled. Indirect evidence suggests that limited herpes viral DNA synthesis occurred. Some HSV antigens were synthesized but the infection was non-productive.

Testes cells from two baboons have been transformed by the Snyder-Theilen (ST) and Gardner-Arnstein (GA) strains of feline sarcoma virus (FeSV). The resulting cell cultures formed tumors in immunosuppressed mice, but not in the autologous baboons. The cells transformed by GA FeSV contained more feline gs antigen than those transformed by ST FeSV. Conversely, the cells transformed by ST FeSV produced more type-C virus. Unlike FeSV, which has a predilection for feline cells, the virus from baboon cells transformed by ST FeSV replicated in baboon and beagle embryo cells, but not in feline embryo cells, suggesting that this virus is different from FeSV.

A baboon cell line transformed by feline sarcoma virus (FeSV) was found to be producing a type-C virus with the antigenic properties and host range of the RD-114/CCC endogenous cat type-C virus group rather than of the typical cat type-C virus (FeLV) or previously described primate type-C viruses.
