摘要:
Recently hospitalized Russian paranoid schizophrenics and male and female normal controls were monitored for arousal by integrated electroencephalogram (EEG). Every subject was asked to give first association to each of 12 high commonality stimulus words. Electrocortically, schizophrenics were consistently more aroused and showed less variation within and between subjects. The more severely affected patients showed electrocortical over-recovery following the response, and this was most apparent among female patients. Commonality of verbal responses failed to predict changes in recovery level in both schizophrenics and normals. This result argues against at least one learning theory which holds anxiety to be the principal drive state responsible for the associative disturbance in schizophrenia. It is suggested that an interference model better explains findings of arousal disturbances in schizophrenics.
