摘要:
Paragnathorhynchus subterraneusMeixner is redescribed and identified withPrognathorhynchus stiloferSchilke. The paired tubular extracapsular secretory sacs in the proboscis apparatus ofAculeorhynchus glandulisSchilke are interpreted as evolutionary derivatives of intracapsular secretory vesicles in the proboscis of some Gnathorhynchidae.AculeorhynchusSchilke is interpreted as an apomorph sister taxon of a group of taxa in the Gnathorhynchidae.

摘要:
Diplectanum yamagutiisp.n., a gill parasite ofKyphosus cinerascens(Forsskål, 1775) off Hawaii is described from amongst the type‐material deposited by Professor S. Yamaguti in the National Parasite Collection of the United States National Museum of Natural History at Beltsville (Maryland, USA).Diplectanum yamagutiisp.n.,D. diplobulbusYamaguti, 1968,D. nenueYamaguti, 1968,D. spiculareYamaguti, 1968 andD. kyphosi(Yamaguti, 1968) comb.n. are sympatric parasites ofKyphosus cinerascensoff Hawaii. These five species are distinguished by the shape and size of the armature of both the cirrus and the haptoral sclerotised piec

摘要:
Material from as many species of the cestode genusEubothriumas could be obtained (six out of nine existing species), from a range of hosts and from both marine and freshwater habitats, were examined both by light and scanning electron microscopy. The scolex shape as seen with SEM turned out to be a very valuable specific character. Particular attention was also paid to the possibility that intra‐specific races, distinguishable on biological criteria, might in addition exhibit characteristic morphological difference

摘要:
Plesiomorph characters for the oligochaete spermatozoon are proposed. The chief trends from these plesiomorphies have been elongation of the acrosome and its tube; withdrawal of the primary acrosome vesicle and the axial rod into the acrosome tube and development of a capitulum; development of connectives from the secondary tube to the axial rod (though there is some possibility that the reverse, absence of connectives, is plesiomorph); detorting and shortening of the midpiece (or possibly, again, the reverse) with an increase in numbers of mitochrondria from the plesiomorph four to eight; modification of the base of the tube to form a hen of variable form; and, in one line (lumbricids) flattening of the tip of the nucleus and correspondingly of the limen. Sperm ultrastructure, examined for 9 oligochaete families, corresponds well with taxonomic and phylogenetic groupings recently recognized by the author. However, convergent similarity of the phreodrilid sperm to that of the Lumbricina suggests a corresponding alteration of fertilization biology in the phreodrilids. The results indicate that the Haplotaxidae lie at the base of the opisthopores, though they do not unequivocally contraindicate acceptance of aHaplotaxis‐likeform as a stem form of the Haplotaxida (opisthopores and Haplotaxidae) and Tubificida. An even more basal position for prosopores, now represented by the Lumbriculida, cannot yet be dismisse

摘要:
The cuticular structures of adultIbla cumingiDarwin,I. quadrivalvis(Cuvier) and of the nauplius stages I‐IV ofI. cumingihave been examined, mainly by scanning but also by transmission electron microscopy. The various kinds of cuticular structures present have been listed and their morphogenetic differentiation is elucidated. The effect of size on the structures has been investigated. Irrespective of the cause of the size difference (sexual dimorphism, stage of growth, stage of ontogenetical development), the cuticular structures in the smaller individuals are simpler (lower level of complexity), they are arranged less regularly and they show a more primitive type of distribution than in the larger individuals. In the deviated males, the cuticular structures vary, but not in the fully developed females and hermaphrodites. It is, therefore, suggested that the males may be a young phylogenetic stage. The function of the cuticular structures has also been discusse

摘要:
Exosphaeroides fluvialisgen. et sp.n. is recorded from a number of estuaries along the mainland coast of Queensland andCymodetta gracilipessp.n. is recorded from sediment amongst mangroves and in a ‘dry’ location on Lizard Island, in the Great Barrier Reef. The brackish water speciesCymodetta gambosaBowman&Kühne is redescribed and the genus is transferred from the hemibranchiate to the platybranchiate group of Sphaeromatidae. Another brackish water sphaeromatid,Exosphaeroma alatumBaker, is also redescribed and is removed from the hemibranchiate Sphaeromatidae to form the type‐species of a eubranchiate genus,Ptyosphaeragen.n. Details are given of the occurrence of sphaeromatid isopods in brackish water in Australia.Sphaeroma tristeHeller, a wood‐boring sphaeromatid, is reported from Australia for the first time. A discussion is given concerning the colonization of brackish water and freshwater by sphaeromatids throughout t

摘要:
Age was determined in three anuran species inhabiting a temperate oceanic climate (Rana temporaria, Bufo calamitaandBufo bufo) by means of the histological structure of the phalanges. Narrow, haematoxylinophilic lines were visible in these, and evidence from the examination of subadults and frog (R. temporaria) recaptures showed the lines to be annual. The validity of using the lines as age indicators was tested most extensively on natural frog populations and the effects of endosteal resorption were not found to be significant. The evidence for this conclusion was provided directly by recapture data and indirectly by an analysis of histological measurements made on the phalanges.
