摘要:
Amphiporus elongatusStephenson, 1911, is redescribed from histological studies of five specimens obtained from near the type locality. The systematic position of the species is reassessed and a new genus,Psammamphiporus, is established for it.Psammamphiporus elongatus(Stephenson) is so far known only from two intertidal sandy localities in the Firth of Clyde.

摘要:
Nine new species of ascophoran cheilostome Bryozoa are described from Antarctic localities. Five species are considered to be new to science (Smittina favulosa, Smittina diffidentia, Smittoidea pugiuncula, Escharella mamillata, Fenestrulina antarctica), while four others have been previously recorded under other names (Smittoidea malleata, Escharella watersi, Lacerna watersi, Hippothoa belgica).Escharella crozetensisWaters, formerly recorded from Antarctica, is considered to be limited to the Kerguelen region of the South Indian Ocean.

摘要:
Rhodopsis pusillaBush 1905. a minute species characterized by a chitinous opereular plate bearing numerous spines is redescribed and a neotype is designated.ApomatolosUchida. 1978 is synonymized withRhodopsis. Ventral fillform mouth‐palps are present a rarely observed character in common withPseudovermiliaBush. Variability between and within populations from different seas is discussed.Rhodopsis pusillafrom Heron Island shows opercular dimorphism. Pouch‐like brood chambers similar in texture (SEM) to theRhodopsistubes and integrally associated with rings marking successive position of the peristome were found on some tubes. These brood chambers. presumed to belong toRhodopsisare described with conjectures as to their mode of formation. Some aspects of opercular polymorphism in serpulids are discus

摘要:
Specimens ofHedylopsis spiculifera(Kowalevsky, 1901) from sands of the Mediterranean Sea and the type specimensof H. suecicaOdhner, 1937, as well as live specimens from its type locality in the Skagerrak, were studied. The anatomy of the reproductive system and the central nervous system of both forms—considered conspecific by several authors—is described and discussed. Contrary to the original description,H. surcicahas the same reproductive system asH. spiculifera, showing an arrangement of the gonoduct unique among acochlidians. The animals are sequential hermaphrodites and have in the female phase an ampulla and not a bursa copulatrix. The ‘albumin’ gland appears as a blind sac set off from the gonoduct, hence its cavity is probably not traversed by the eggs. Since neither a receptaculum seminis nor a bursa copulatrix was found, it is concluded that sperm are transferred by injection using the penial spine as a hypodermic needle. The specimens from the Skagerrak also have spicules in the head region, as described forH. spiculifera. Therefore.H. suericais considered a synonym ofH. spic

摘要:
Size and distribution of dermal elements in Ordovician eriptychiids and astraspids are considered relative to phases of skeletal assimilation and regression. The phyletic significance of acellularity in aspidin is discussed, as also is the alleged relationship claimed to exist in initial developmental stages between that hard tissue and dentine proper. To judge from hard tissue histology the astraspids may not, like the eriptychiids, have belonged to the heterostracans but to another group, of early agnathans, still incompletely known.

摘要:
Acaronia vultuosasp.n. occurs in the Rio Orinoco and upper Rio Negro drainages. In the Rio Negro it overlaps slightly the range of its only congener,A. nassa(Heckel), from which it can be distinguished by (1) the lack of microbranchiospines on the first gill arch, (2) thc separate instead of coalesced anterior gill rakers on the first gill arch, and (3) the colour pattern, which includes a much larger midlateral blotch and a different pattern of dark markings on the head.
