While studying the original anti‐Jsbserum it was observed that the red cells of the two Koindividuals (Peltz and Kanto) were Js(a—b—). Two additional examples of anti‐Jsbare also reported as a result of this study.More than 4,000 Negroes were tested and six were found who were K+, Js(a+). Five of these families are presented in whichKandJsacan be followed in the offspring of a parent who is K+, Js(a+). In six children of three matings in which one parent is K+Js(a+) and the other parent is K—, Js(a_) no recombinations were observed. One child from such a mating inherited neitherKnorJsa. In the other two families one parent was K+, Js(a+) but the other parent could not be tested or was Js(a+).In the Memphis area the incidence of K+ among Negroes is 1.5% and of Js(a+) 14%. Among the K+ individuals the incidence of Js(a+) was found to be 8%. The population studied is not large enough to be statistically significant but the data suggest thatKandJsswill rarely if ever occur on the same thromoscme.The possible relationship of the two systems is

A delayed hemolytic reaction following transfusion occurred in a 23‐year‐old Chinese mother of six. Her blood was Jk(a—b—), and her serum contained a cross‐reacting anti‐JkaJkbas well as a separable anti‐Jka. Her husband and children were all Jk(a—b+). Although genetic transmission of Jk(a—b—) blood has not been proven as yet, it appears most probably to be the homozygous expression of a third allele or of gene deletion. A new Rh phenotype, Rhorh, G‐negative is described in a Negro woman who developed anti‐G (rhG) antibodies during pregnancy. The accidental finding of an agglutinin in ACD plasma, not demonstrable in unmodified serum from the same donor, led to the discovery of a pH‐dependent antibody with anti‐M specificity. Two additional examples were found shortly thereafter. Screening of 1,000 random group N donors disclosed 21 similar examples of pH‐dependent natural anti‐M.Titers of the 24 antibodies studied in detail ranged from 1:1 to 1:128, with most falling in the lower range. The more potent sera reacted well at room temperature, provided the pH was kept in the proper range, the low‐titered sera were active only at 4 C. With increasing pH the agglutination could be abolished in every case. Under certain conditions, a prozone‐like effect was observed in titrations in which the initial acidification of the serum was kept marginal. This was shown to be the result of the buffemg effect of the serum at low dilutions, preventing acidification by the usually slightly acid (pH 5.6–6.0) saline. Four hundred and twenty‐two mothers with histories of spontaneous abortion and 300 mothers without such histories were examined for their various red cell blood groups, substances in salivary secretions and for the presence of immune anti‐A and anti‐B hemolysins. These factors in the 722 patients were compared with the occurrence of anti‐Tja‐like hemolysins among aborters in Western Australia. Of significance was the observation that the presence of anti‐Tja‐like hemolysins was associated only with abortion while the presence of immune anti‐A or anti‐B hemolysins occurred more often in mothers with histories of stillbirths and neonatal deaths. An increase in platelet factor 3 activity of intact platelet‐rich plasma (PRP), measured as a shortening of the product I or Russell's viper venom time, has been found to accompany platelet damage. The strength of the antiglobulin reaction with cells incubated in saline was compared with a similar reaction when albumin was added before or after incubation. In one case studied a weak rh“(E) antibody was not detected by the antiglobulin test with saline suspended cells and a transfusion reaction occurred. The incompatibility could be found by the antiglobulin test if the incubation mixture included added albumin. In another case an unidentified antibody had consistently weaker antiglobulin reactions after incubation in albumin compared to saline. An investigation of the antiglobulin activity of 40 antibodies showed antiglobulin agglutination scores that were significantly greater after incubation in the presence of albumin rather than saline. Blood group antibodies tend to occur in a small group of sensitive people. Thus, in Rh‐negatives, those who produce anti‐Rh are more likely than others to form still other antibodies.
