Assays of several clotting factors were performed on outdated, plastic bag blood bank plasma 25 to 36 days old, and after four more months of storage of aliquots at 4C and –20 C. Levels of PTC, PTA, Factor VII and prothrombin were almost consistently found to be above 70 per cent. Factor V levels were generally below 30 per cent, especially after four months of storage. AHG levels averaged 56 per cent and 34 per cent of outdated plasmas were above 70 per cent. No further deterioration occurred after four months at –20 C. These findings suggest that outdated blood bank plasmas screened for satisfactory AHG levels may be used directly for therapy or as a source of concentrated AHG fractions. Levels of clotting factors compatible with normal hemostasis can be achieved in the plasma of patients with severe congenital deficiencies by transfusion of large amounts of fresh frozen plasma after prior reduction of the plasma volume of the patient by plasmapheresis. The procedure is a potential source of serious complications; close observation of the patient and observance of recommended precautions are necessary. The technic should be useful in emergency situations when AHF concentrates are not available and routine plasma transfusions are inadequate.

With the use of Aster's and excess ACD solutions, the recovery of chromium51‐labeled platelets was greater, and the sequestration phenomenon decreased in patients without hematologic disease, compared with preparations collected in the normal amounts of ACD as the anticoagulant. Analysis of platelet counts following transfusions of platelet concentrates demonstrated a significant increase of platelets in transfused leukemic patients using acidified preparations as compared with those collected in normal amounts of ACD. The use of additional ACD solution which is routinely available in the blood bank appears to be a satisfactory method to prepare the acidified platelet concentrate

The human‐type blood groups of 20 gibbons of subspeciesHylobates lar larand of four gibbons of subspeciesHylobates lar pileatushave been determined. Differences in distribution of the ABO blood groups and MN types were observed for the two subspecies, but all 24 gibbons were of Rh‐Hr type RhGi. All the animals also lack both factors I and i. A simple card technic using seven drops of finger blood for rapid ABO and Rho(D) typing was compared with the standard typing methods of the JHH Blood Bank laboratory. When performed according to instructions, the card test showed distinct, easily readable reactions that were in excellent agreement with the results obtained by the standard method.
