摘要:
Passive antibody specifically suppresses an immune response by binding to the antigenic determinant, and appears to do so by competing with potential antibody forming cells for available antigen. This concept is consistent with most of the evidence in the literature. In the course of naturally occurring immune responses, circulating antibody contributes to the progressive rise in antibody affinity with time after immunization by suppressing the antibody production of cells bearing relatively lower affinity antibody.

摘要:
A new method of closed‐system platelet‐pheresis is described, utilizing plastic bowls which can be attached directly to standard laboratory centrifuges. The unique features of this system are those of: simplicity, speed, and safety. The assembled bags, centrifuge bowl, and tubulations remain connected to the donor throughout the platelet separation, obviating the possibility of returning reconstituted red cells or plasma to the wrong donor. Data are presented on 24 experiments of up to 4 units of whole blood each. Studies with the platelets isolated in this manner show retention of essentially normal function. Preliminaryin‐vivodata suggest a similar normalcy and circulatory effectiv

摘要:
Studies on the effects of land and air transportation on CPD blood stored for 21 and 28 days are reported. Plasma potassium, supernatant hemoglobin, per cent hemolysis, whole blood pH, plasma sugar, posttransfusion survival (autologous) and t/2 of the transported units did not differ significantly from those of the control units that were left undisturbed in the refrigerator for comparable duration of storage. No untoward reactions were encountered in any of the subjects. In addition, two subjects showed satisfactory red cell survival (above 70%) after 21 days of storage, in spite of collection deficits of 200 and 130 ml. No correlation could be shown between survival and t/2 and suchin vitroparameters as per cent hemolysis, plasma hemoglobin, plasma sugar, pH and plasma potassium. A good positive correlation was found between survival and initial slope.

摘要:
Two hundred and fifty‐one group B donors who had been immunized with blood group specific substances were typed with anti‐Leaserum at the time their serum was examined for anti‐A. Among 160 donors found to have an anti‐A titer of 1:100 or more, 62 or 38.8 per cent were Le(a+). Of 91 donors whose titer was less than 1:100 only six or 6.6 per cent were Le(a+). It is concluded that the Le(a+) phenotype is associated with the isoagglutinin response. The nature of this association remains to be det
