摘要:
Blood group studies disclosed mosaicism of the red cells in a healthy male Negro donor who was subsequently also found to have mosaicism of skin and bone marrow with respect to XX‐XY chromosomal constitution and whose skin showed unequal pigmentation. The two red cell populations were unequal in numbers with a ratio of approximately 10:1. The major population was group A, Jkanegative and showed the sickling trait in wet films and by electrophoresis. The minor population was group B, Jkapositive, did not sickle and contained only hemoglobin A. Both red cells were Leapositive despite the fact that the propositus was a secretor. However, only A substance was secreted and it was demonstrated by salivary studies and with the help of complete family studies, that the minor genetic product which had produced the group B erythrocytes represented the gene contributionse seand was the source of Leasubstance sufficient to coat both red cell populations. The family studies showed that the propositus had received a 2 allele contribution from each parent and was therefore the result of double fertilization of a double egg nucleus presumably an ovum and a polar bod

摘要:
This is a preliminary report on the occurrence in Western Australia of a hemolysin resembling in specificity, but not identical with classical anti‐Tja. It was found in sera of pregnant women who threatened to abort. Complete absence of the hemolysin in a similar group of non‐pregnant aborters, normal pregnant women, and a large group of husbands, suggest that the presence of “anti‐Tja‐like” hemolysins is associated with pregnancy. However, attempts to demonstrate hemolysins in a similar group of aborters in the United States and Canada have thus far be

摘要:
Saliva and serum from 124 baboons have been tested for A‐B‐H specificity. All the baboons were secretors and could be classified into one of the three groups, A, B, and AB; there were no baboons of group O. Occasional seeming contradictions to the Landsteiner rule, namely, baboons with A in the saliva and anti‐A in the serum were shown to be due to two different kinds of serological specificity of A, one shared by saliva and red blood cells and designated as Asand the other peculiar to red cells alone and designated as Ac. Baboons of groups A and AB have only As, and so can produce antibodies of specificity anti‐Ac‐ A similar explanation accounts for previous observations of occasional spider monkeys with B in the saliva and anti‐B in the serum. Analysis of population data and family material indicates that the A‐B‐O groups are inherited by allelic genes in ba

摘要:
The increase in agglutinating activity of group O sera following centrifugation has been related to incomplete, cross‐reactive antibodies in these sera. The effect is thought to be due to steric interference of smaller 7S, cross‐reactive molecules by the larger 19S agglutinins rather than to any lack of equilibrium in the agglutinating system. An increase in activity was also demonstrated with anti‐Rh sera containing saline agglutinins and incomplete antibodies following centrifugation. With anti‐Rh sera, centrifugation at 17,750 × g for 7.5 minutes was required to produce the same effect apparent with group O sera centrifuged at 100 × g for two minutes.High speed centrifugation produced saline agglutination with incomplete anti‐Rh antibodies equivalent to that produced in 20 per cent bov

摘要:
Human corpse blood drawn and stored without the use of ACD solution or other additives and taken within a six‐hour postmortem period from victims of relatively sudden unexpected death is suitable for transfusion into anemic patients. In most cases of sudden death the blood undergoes a peculiar type of fibrinolysis which obviates the need for anticoagulant solutions. Three clinical cases of such transfusion are reported, the first done and recorded in the U. S. There was no trace of difficulty during and after transfusion in any case. The hematologic response was excellent. There was no discernible alteration of clotting mechanisms or red cell fragility in recipients. One patient underwent major surgery immediately after receiving massive amounts of corpse packed cells on two separate occasions; surgery and recovery were entirely uneventful. The results of electrolyte and hematologic studies of untreated blood taken from ten corpses are also reported and demonstrate no appreciable difference from those of routine live‐donor blood. The significance and implications of this work are discussed brie

摘要:
Blood was stored at 4 C. in ACD without additive or supplemented with adenine, inosine, inosine‐adenine, or adenosine. After six weeks of storage the carbohydrate intermediates of the erythrocytes were studied by column chromatography. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and 2,3‐diphosphoglycerate (DPG) had disappeared from blood stored without additive or with adenine. Both ATP and DPG remained in erythrocytes stored with the other additives. Concentration of ATP was highest in blood stored with inosine‐adenine, and the level of DPG was highest with the addition of adenosine to the storage sol

摘要:
“Naturally occurring” anti‐M antibodies were found in the serum of a ten‐month‐old type N female Negro twin (designated twin A), as revealed upon blood testing by a discrepancy between the cell blood group and the reverse blood group. The other twin, a male (designated twin B) did not possess this antibody. No specific cause for its presence could be determined although it was of interest that both the mother and the other twin were type MN. The possibility is discussed that anti‐M, although not indicative of chimerism in the corresponding twin, may have signalled the presence of chimerism in twin B. However, red blood cell chimerism was not established. A technic of karyotyping also failed to reveal cell mixtures upon difference in sex chromosome
