摘要:
Teaching staff and charge nurses how to skillfully delegate responsibility to assistive personnel can alleviate fears and mistrust. A workshop defining the art of delegation leaves nurses feeling more in control and less victimized. As a result, they begin to see delegation as a viable solution.

摘要:
Reward and recognition programs often are the tools that hospital administrators use when morale is low. Yet, when developing a program, staff nurses seldom are involved in meaningfully impacting the structure. Through the process of empowerment and decentralization, a large non-profit hospital encourages innovative programs to reward and recognize nurses.

摘要:
Within a 10-month time period, a new system-wide documentation common to five hospitals in the Evangelical Health System was designed and implemented. The documentation system is comprised of the Nursing Admission Assessment, Patient Care Plan, Patient Care Flowsheet, and Patient/Family Education Record. Examples of barriers and success factors as well as the system's framework are presented.

摘要:
Analysis and classification of change theories precede evaluation of such theories. Current change literature in several disciplines yielded many lists of change theory characteristics used in theory analysis. Change theories differ when addressing ethical and pragmatic consequences of change, participation, and adopter and diffusionist roles and some have an innovation bias. Analysis of planned change theories is an important precursor to theory evaluation because careful analysis suggests valuative dimensions important to nursing.

摘要:
The amount of direct patient involvement with disciplines other than nursing and physicians was measured in a systematic study on a medical/surgical unit. It was expected this knowledge would enhance patient care and could be incorporated into utilization, budgeting and needs projection as well.

摘要:
Written in 1893, the Nightingale Pledge reflected the opinion of a small group of nurses, physicians and lay women about the required characteristics of American nursing. This Pledge serves as a professional mission statement, one that truly reflects the deep-seated vision and values of nursing. A modern analysis of this classic work creates a frame of reference to measure nursing practice.

摘要:
Nursing costs make up nearly half of a hospital's total budget, a situation exacerbated by the RN shortage. To maximize effectiveness, hospital administrators must ensure that RNs do only those tasks which require an RN. A nurse “extender” program is described which utilizes nursing students to provide care that does not require the expertise of a RN. This system has increased RN productivity and direct patient care opportunities while simultaneously providing an effective avenue for recruiting RN graduates at decreased orientation costs.
